Photos of Kasim at the Press Conference
21.15 - The 12th and final update of this Blog today!
GettyImages.com has loads of photos of Kasim Sulton with Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, Todd Rundgren and Prairie Prince at the press conference today to announce The New Cars Road Rage Tour, plus some of the performance. (Click on each photo for a larger version of the picture.) There are 2 amazing close-ups of Kasim at the conference!
FilmMagic.com has a batch of photos of both the press conference and the performance (including one close-up of Kasim!).
WireImage.com has 12 photos of both events, including two pictures of all the band where Kasim is actually in the middle of the group!
Many thanks to the kind person who sent all these links.

Kasim and The New Cars - press reports
19.30 - There have been a spate of online press reports about the performance and press conference this morning by The New Cars in Los Angeles. Most include the usual promotional photo but unfortunately both Kasim Sulton and Prairie Prince are often just added as bylines near the end of the articles!
Some articles with different slants are:
PRNewswire.com - a long article including quotes from band members (not Kasim) and music people. Kasim is described as "fellow Utopia bassist/vocalist Kasim Sulton" although at the top of the page they spell his name incorrectly as Kasim Sultan.
Yahoo (Australia) - an article that suggests that the band may be using the name The New Cars as opposed to The Cars to avoid "legal traps that dog acts when they reunite with different lineups". (In this article Kasim is only mentioned in the final paragraph!)
Reuters UK - an article which includes some quotes from the press conference (and says that Debbie Harry has apparently said that this will be Blondie's final tour) and includes a photo of Kasim playing at The House Of Blues earlier today! Click the photo for a larger version of the picture

Kasim and The New Cars - video
17.00 - The video for The New Cars single Not Tonight is available to watch here. It was recorded in January in Los Angeles.
Unfortunately Kasim isn't shown until about 36 seconds into it (Greg Hawkes isn't shown until over a minute into the video!) and the best close-ups of Kasim is towards the end when they repeat the "But not tonight" lines.

Kasim and The New Cars - Press Release
16.30 - Noble PR (who have been responsible for all the PR for Todd Rundgren in Europe over the past few years) have sent the press release pasted in below.
The pages about The New Cars on their website are:
The Road Rage Tour
The New Cars album It's Alive
The New Cars Biography
The press release is:
"For immediate release
After 17 years the eighties rock'n'roll band "The Cars" are reuniting today as "The New Cars" at 10am in Los Angeles at The House of Blues to announce a brand new live album entitled "The New Cars: It's Alive". The album also features three new studio recordings written by original Cars band members Elliot Easton (guitar) and Greg Hawkes (keyboards) and new lead singer and guitarist, Todd Rundgren (the latter has produced albums for the New York Dolls, Meat Loaf, Patti Smith, Hall and Oates). One of the new studio recordings, "Not Tonight" will be released as the first single.
The album was recorded live in LA earlier this year. The press conference will reveal details of the new album (released in the UK in mid May), and the band's co-headline tour of the US with Blondie. In the next few weeks, the band will be announcing details of their UK and European tour dates.
Originally signed to Elektra Records, The Cars were one of the biggest rock and roll bands in the eighties who scored top ten hits with Best Friend's Girl, Drive, You Might Think, Shake It Up, Just What I Needed, Let's Go, etc. The Cars first came to world acclaim with their 1978 debut album produced by Roy Thomas Baker (the same guy who produced Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody"). The band were one of the first subversive rock groups to ride the New Wave movement from 1978 throughout most of the 1980s, but were also one of the few to generate massive commercial success since they last performed live together in 1989. One of the original lead singers and bassist, Ben Orr, died from cancer in 2000.
For further information about what will be announced at today's press conference in LA, please click the links above.
The band are special music guests on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on NBC television in the USA on Tuesday 14th March. The programme will be aired in the UK and Europe on Friday 17th March at 10pm GMT on CNBC (Sky Channel 505)."
Noble PR have also produced the following graphic:

Kasim and The New Cars - official website
16.00 - The official New Cars website has opened at TheNewCars.com.
There's a bio on the site about Kasim Sulton (it appears to be the one taken from his official website) but unfortunately it makes it sound as though he's done nothing since 2001!
They also have a page of Tour Dates (but do not list the whole tour) and in the News section it says that The New Cars will be on Scarborough Country on MSNBC tomorrow. It actually says "The band will discuss their new "Road Rage 2006: Tour" so possibly Kasim will get to talk! Currently the website only has the one photo of Kasim on the website.

Kasim and The New Cars Road Rage Tour
13.30 - 30 minutes ago tickets went on sale for the majority of the concerts on The New Cars Road Rage Tour (with Blondie). Fans have reported that at some venues it was easy to get seats near the front but at others it was impossible with venues obviously holding back seats. Some, but not all of the venues had the VIP packages.
Additional concerts on the tour which were not previously "discovered" are:
6/6 - Vienna, VA
6/23 - Montreal, QC, Canada
The New Cars Road Rage Tour page has been updated with ticketing and venue links. There are now 28 concerts on the tour with dates in Europe to be announced in a few weeks.
|
Kasim to play Canada
12.45 - The New Cars will be playing the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto, Canada on 21st June (the first international concert discovered). Tickets go on sale today and The New Cars Road Rage Tour (with Blondie) page has the venue and ticketing links.
This is the 26th concert of the tour that has been discovered on the Internet.
|
Kasim and The New Cars Tour - now 25 concerts are listed!
11.45 - As TicketMaster.com are listing 23 out of the 25 concerts, I'm assuing it's safe to add back The New Cars Road Rage Tour (with Blondie) page.
New concerts not mentioned on this website before are:
5/12 - Tunica, MS
5/17 - Phoenix, AZ
5/30 - Englewood, CO
6/4 - Cuyahoga Falls, OH
6/15 - Hollywood, FL
Tickets for a lot of the concerts go on sale today.
|
Kasim in Arizona
11.00 - A new concert has appeared on TicketMaster.com - Dodge Theatre, Phoenix, AZ. Tickets go on sale at 11.00am (in that time zone) and the concert is on Wednesday 17th May. Apparently the venue has "phsyically challenged seating" and tickets vary between $45 and $135 (plus charges).
|
Kasim and The New Cars - Tix on sale
10.15 - It's past 10.00am and it appears that none of the concerts which were listed to go on sale on TicketMaster at 10.00am have actually gone on sale yet!
The only tickets that are currently listed are for Orlando and Clearwater but lawn seats (not the reserved seats) are on sale for the The Ravina Festival (that is a direct link to the event). The cost is $85 for reserved seats and $20 for lawn (plus charges).
To the right is a screenshot from the website. It's interesting to note that Kasim Sulton is the only one mentioned as singing vocals apart from Todd Rundgren. (The "_" in front of his name is on the website!)

Kasim's performance this morning
04.15 - At 9.00am PST this morning Kasim Sulton will be joining Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, Todd Rundgren and Prairie Prince for a performance and press conference at The House Of Blues on Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles, CA. This is rumored to be in front of 500 press and music contacts.
The official website for the venue is here but obviously this event is not listed as it's a private function. It's unclear whether the event will be taking over the whole venue or not but it seems likely that the performance will be held in the Music Hall there. This room includes full banquet amenities, three full service bars, a 30' x 20' foot stage plus a brand new state of the art sound system. It accomodates up to 1,000 people (standing).
It is expected that details about The New Cars Road Rage Tour will be announced at this press conference. For those not at the event it's expected that a press release will be issued around the same time.

Kasim and The New Cars
04.00 - Today tickets for a lot of the concerts on The New Cars Road Rage Tour with Blondie will go on sale. Please keep checking back during the days as this site is updated with the tour dates and venue and ticketing links. If you'd like to be notified by e-mail of all updates to KasimInfo.com, then join the Yahoo KasimInfo Mailing List. E-mails are sent to that list whenever the site is updated - I expect that several e-mails will be sent to that list today!
Overnight someone sent an e-mail to a mailing list from The Ravina Festival (just north of Chicago) to say that The New Cars (with Blondie) will be playing there on a Saturday in June. (It looks likely that it will be the 3rd as that's the only Saturday available for the band.) Tickets go on sale today at 9.00am.
The logo below is taken from The Ruth Eckard Hall website. Many thanks to Sherrie Williams for this link.

Kasim Sulton Quote About The New Cars
"It's safe to say that it's going to be a really good live kick ass band!"

Kasim and The New Cars
18.00 - During today two more potential dates on The New Cars Road Rage Tour have popped up on TicketMaster.com. They are for Clearwater, FL and Saratoga Springs, NY.
Currently the dates have been removed from The New Cars Tour page until after the press conference when all the ticketing and venue links will be added.
|
Kasim on The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson
01.30 - As Todd Rundgren reported yesterday The New Cars will be appearing on the CBS show The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson on Tuesday 21st March. Click here for the official website for the show - The New Cars are already listed (actually they've listed "The Cars with Todd Rundgren"!).
It appears that free tickets are still available for this show. Click here for the online ticket link or call (818) 295-2700 with any queries. Arrival time at the studio is 4.00pm.

Kasim and The New Cars
01.15 - WAPL 105.7 ("Wisconsin's Rock Station") and a few other radio stations have an article called "Let's Go" here on their website which is an article about The New Cars touring. They also have a link to "an unconfirmed preliminary itinerary for the trek online" which is a link to The New Cars Tour page here on KasimInfo.com! They also show the (officially unreleased) photo of the 5 guys in the band.

Todd Rundgren online chat about The New Cars Tour
18.30 - A few minutes ago, Todd Rundgren completed an online chat where he was asked by fans about The New Cars (amongst other things). The most interesting things he mentioned were:
Todd thinks that The New Cars logo will have "less to do with cars and more to do with traffic lights" (presumably like the logo on the right)
Previews of the live CD start tomorrow
So far they only have Blondie as an opening act - "We wanted to get a new band but that will take away from our show time"
They'll be playing a variety of different sized venues - "I think we're making 2 passes of the US, smaller venues first, larger ones later"
The new song called More was mainly written by Todd Rundgren
A third new song is called Warm which was mainly written by Greg Hawkes
The New Cars will be on the Craig Ferguson show on 21st March
Many thanks to the kind permission who provided all this info.

Blondie
12.00 - Blondie's official website Blondie.net now says that their tour dates will also be announced on 14th March.
Blondie will be making an appearance on Good Morning America this coming Wednesday (15th March). Check local listings for the time. Blondie are being inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall Of Fame tomorrow (Monday 13th) evening.

Kasim and The New Cars PR
04.30 - Lots of fans (myself included) pooh-poohed the PR surrounding The New Cars with their ploy of it all being a big mystery who the band that is "reforming after 17 years" is when we know that it's Kasim Sulton playing as part of The New Cars.
However it appears that at least two of the more trashy British newspapers picked up the story.....the trouble is that they thought it was Phil Collins reuniting with Genesis! This article online has also picked up the story and this thread (amongst others) on PhilCollins.co.uk also reports it. This thread reports that it's The New Cars.
Whether it's a good idea to build up the hope of loads of fans of Phil Collins is another question (but making The Daily Star and The Daily Mirror look more idiotic than they already are is just an added bonus!!).

Kasim and The New Cars - Rip-off packages
12.45 - I could be premature here but below is a graphic which was taken from TickeMaster earlier this week. It was only a demo page and linked to a date in December but it does list the VIP packages which are currently listed on TicketMaster.com. In each package you get items like the following:
- The New Cars exclusive t-shirt, pin and keychain, plus an exclusive collectible item!
- New Cars Store $20 electronic gift card.
- The New Cars Express lane membership (valued at $19.95), giving you full access to The New Cars website and a 10% discount anytime you shop in the store.
Only people buying the most expensive package get the non-Kasim meet and greet and a copy of the album. People who buy the three most expensive packages have access to free drink and "a chance to meet other fans of The Cars" in a pre-show party.
The prices shown (which may not be the eventual prices but do appear to be along the lines of VIP packages offered by other artists) are:
$425 - seat in first 10 rows
£325 - seat in first 15 rows
$225 - seat in first 20 rows
$169 - seat in first 30 rows.
|
Kasim and The New Cars - VIP packages
12.15 - Clicking on the link on the Boston concert page here on TicketMaster.com leads you to a page which says the following:
"Let the Good Times Roll...Again! For the first time in 17 years, The New Cars and Rock "n" Roll Hall Of Fame Blondie are uniting for the 2006 Road Rage Tour.
Now is your chance to purchase tickets before the public onsale or choose from 4 Ultimate VIP packages!
Each ticket purchase includes an optional free online membership to The New Cars Fan Club and an exclusive New Cars & Blondie 10 song digital event download from emusic.
EXCLUSIVE NEW CARS & BLONDIE 10 SONG DIGITAL EVENT ALBUM
The digital album download includes:
- 5 songs performed by The New Cars, including 4 live recorded classic songs of The Cars and the newly penned studio track "Not Tonight".
- 5 songs performed by Blondie, including 4 previously unreleased live tracks with a new studio cover of "More Than This."
EXCLUSIVE VIP PACKAGES
You can also choose from the following 4 Ultimate VIP packages. Please visit the links to your right for full package details.
- Ultra Sweet Spot VIP Meet& Greet package
- Ultra Sweet Spot VIP package
- Sweet Spot VIP package
- Top Spot VIP package "
The "links to the right" lead to pages about the packages with no prices. The worrying thing about this is that a previous page on TicketMaster last week listed these VIP packages and they went up in price to $425! Looking at the highest priced one as well as other insignicant things you get:
"Preferred seating in the first 10 rows
A pre-show meet and greet session with New Car members Todd, Elliott and Greg"
But no meeting with Kasim??????
|
Kasim Sulton Road Trip
10.45 - Somebody posted on the the messageboard attached to TRConnection.com about the long distances between some of the concerts so assuming that the 16 dates we know so far are correct and allowing for the fact that it's hard to fit all these names on a small map, the blue line below shows a rough idea of the route they'll be taking (so far) and it's certainly not the easiest route around the country! (Obviously more gigs will be added too.)
|
Kasim and The New Cars Road Rage Tour (with Blondie)
07.00 - Overnight TicketMaster.com have removed the ticket links for concerts in the following cities:
Las Vegas, NV
San Diego, CA
Saratoga, CA
Reno, NV
Hinckley, MN
Holmdel, NJ
Charleston, SC
Atlantic City, NJ
Uncasville, CT
It's unlikely that it's anything to be concerned about as officially none of the gigs were supposed to have been "announced" until after the press conference on Tuesday.
Yesterday Canoe-Jam (a Canadian website) posted an article saying that The New Cars and Blondie will be playing a gig at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto, Canada. They also state that Blondie will be the opening act for The New Cars and not the other way round.
One fan of Blondie recently posted to a mailing list:
"I understand that booking agents had a hard time booking this tour. They did not know what to charge, or what folks would pay, or if anyone would come
to see The Cars without Ric, or Blondie without a new CD and radio play. The Cars will be supporting a new CD, and maybe a song from it will take off, who knows.
Given Blondie's extensive touring schedule over the past few years, a lot of people have already seen them. If they have no new material to support, to
drive fans to the shows, ticket sales for them will probably be low as well, save for us hardcore fans. "
In case it disappears at some point (and as it mentions Kasim Sulton by name!) the Canoe-Jam article says (in part):
"Next Tuesday, The Cars are holding a press conference in L.A. and expected to announce a new lineup and a summer tour -- including a stop at the Molson Amphitheatre -- with fellow late-'70s-early-'80s music stars Blondie as openers.
Meanwhile, speculation is that The New Cars lineup will consist of original members Elliot Easton on guitar and synth player Greg Hawkes, rounded out by singer-guitarist Todd Rundgren and his regular collaborators, bassist Kasim Sulton and drummer Prairie Prince."
DeaconLight.com mentions a rumor on the Internet that The Pretenders may be a third band on The Road Rage Tour.
