Folkommotion is described on its website as follows:
"From Diana Parker, Founder
In 2003, I had a cerebral aneurysm and subsequent brain surgery. My doctors told my family that I probably wouldn't survive the operation. I managed to survive the surgery and endured rehabilitation wherein I learned to walk and talk again. During my convalescence, I had a major epiphany: life's too short not to do what you love. Folkommotion was born then.
Folkommotion is a concert series designed to encourage acoustic music, both local and "national" artists have appeared. Many talented songwriters and musicians fly in "under the radar" and lots of music lovers don't know them, let alone get a chance to see them perform. We're working to correct that.
Folkommotion is a labor of love. Everyone you see working at a concert is a volunteer, and all net proceeds of the concerts go to the performers. The performers keep all merchandise sales as well - we don't take a cut from anything. Folkommotion is able to function through donations and the sales of Folkommotion merchandise. We'll never be a big, slick operation, but we'll always be there."
