Liars DVD Reviews
10.45 - Kasim Sulton receives a mention in several fan's reviews of The Liars DVD on Amazon.com. Click here to read them all but the main mentions are:
"Todd, Jesse, Kasim, Prairie and John perform with such intensity I'm surprised the Empire State Performance Center at The Egg didn't hatch that night."
"His performance with fellow Liars John Ferenzik, Jesse Gress, Prairie Prince and Kasim Sulton was beyond superlatives."
"That amazing band he had backing him up -- unbelievable all the way around. Prairie Prince was on fire. Kasim Sulton's bass/background vocals were exactly what you'd expect from someone who goes back three decades with Todd."
"The only thing I missed was Kasim handling a lead vocal on at least one song as he did in Rochester, NY. (He sang a cover version of "Expressway to Your Heart".)"
"This DVD and performance by not only him, but Kasim, Jesse, John, and Prairie was spectacular."
"These guys really rock it, it's a blast seeing Todd play with Kasim, Prairie Prince, Jesse, and John again."
"Superb backing band including Kasim Sulton."

KasimInfo.com
09.00 - KasimInfo.com has now been open for five years! (Previous to that the site Kasim Sulton - A Fan's View was open for almost another two years.)
To toot my own trumpet(!!) during 2005 KasimInfo.com has gone from strength to strength with the website itself having more hits than in any other year. This is due in part to the constant updates to the site plus the fact that often news about Kasim and other artists with which he works is often posted on this website first.
One new addition to KasimInfo.com this year has been that items on the Blog page are now put in blocks (plus more graphics are used) which has proven popular. Plus there have been more items added about background facts (e.g. details of the venues where Kasim has played) which fans also apparently find interesting.
Although I don't analyise the website stats daily, KasimInfo.com had hits from 118 different countries in 2005!
|
Although on paper Kasim Sulton made 5 more public appearances in 2005 than he did in 2004, these were mainly helped by 63 appearances in Movin' Out so in fact during 2005 Kasim spent far less time than he has in recent years on tour as he only toured from June until September with Meat Loaf, plus he played 8 gigs as part of Patty Smyth and Scandal during January and February.
Sadly for Kasim's fans his aim in March 2004 to play "numerous solo gigs late in 2004 and throughout 2005" never happened as he only played one solo gig during 2005 (Manchester, England in July) plus he made an in-store appearance in New Berlin, WI in October. Also the new version of Quid Pro Quo was not released (but this may be due to the problems at Sanctuary Records). On the plus side Kasim played one new song he wrote at the Manchester gig and a Phil Thornalley song which Kasim recorded in London has been added to download on KasimSulton.com recently. Also Kasim has been keeping all his fans quite up to date with his online journal which has proved to be very popular.
Kasim appeared on several new albums which were released in 2005 including Unstoppable by Sounding Rick (this involved in Kasim travelling to Florida a few times) and Todd Rundgren's Liars DVD. Kasim has also started recording Meat Loaf's forthcoming album Bat Out Of Hell III which is expected to be released in either late 2006 or 2007.
Kasim also spent over a week playing and being Musical Director for a new artist in February (complete with a showcase performance), the best part of two weeks rehearsing in Las Vegas in preparation for the Meat Loaf tour and a couple of weeks in Los Angeles rehearsing and recording new songs for The New Cars Tour in 2006.
(For the sake of this analysis I've listed Kasim's appearance at Toys In The Park as a charity benefit concert (as he didn't play a solo gig) and the Hurricane Katrina Meat Loaf gig as one of the Meat Loaf concerts.) |

Videos Of The Week
17.00 - This week it's a couple of Christmas videos! Or, at least, two videos of a song which started off as a Christmas song - The One Sure Thing!
Kasim has explained on stage that he originally wrote this music for Glen Burtnik's Xmas Xtravaganza (an annual charity benefit concert) but that he couldn't compose any Christmas words to match the song so thankfully Kasim used the music for the words of The One Sure Thing instead.
The first clip was from Kasim's gig in Erie, PA on 21st June 2001 (only the third time that Kasim had played the song in public) and the second clip is from Kasim's gig in Philadelphia, PA on Friday 1st March 2002.

Kasim Sulton started December 2005 in Los Angeles recording background vocals on Meat Loaf's forthcoming album Bat Out Of Hell III. As well as 3 appearances in Movin' Out (over 2 days), Kasim also made a trip to Miami, Florida to play with a few bands at Toys In The Park.
In 2004 Kasim was mainly at home for the holidays but he also made 9 appearances in Movin' Out.
In 2003 Kasim started the month in Ireland before travelling to UK to play concerts on the Meat Loaf Couldn't Have Said It Better Tour. Kasim played 10 concerts and opened 9 of them. (One concert in Cardiff, Wales was cancelled.)
|
Toys In The Park
10.00 - Apparently at Toys In The Park on 18th December in Miami, FL, Kasim Sulton only played with some of the other bands on the bill and did not play a solo set.
Kasim described it as "The gig was for a very worthy cause". All proceeds of the event went to Better Way Miami.
|
Kasim and The New Cars
04.45 - It doesn't mention Kasim Sulton by name but this is an interesting article on KansasCity.com by The Wall Street Journal writer Ethan Smith titled "Aging rockers can’t get no satisfaction - Many listeners prefer live concerts over older musicians’ new CDs".
The article also mentions that "Early 2006 will bring new music from The Cars".

Kasim and The New Cars
12.15 - It appears that The Cars signed a two year deal on 4th April 2005 with Paid, Inc. "to establish and manage all aspects of the band's official fan club and official fan club web site, including coordinating with the band's online marketing initiatives, fan experience events and creating online merchandising programs".
The press release on the website includes the phrase "Paid, Inc.'s creative team will work closely with its artists to develop cutting edge fan club activities and unique fan experiences that will engage and build loyalty among fans year round. Activities for The Cars fans may include everything from contests, to give-aways, online chats and limited-edition memorabilia, online celebrity interaction, contests and special events. By making fans the priority, Paid, Inc. is building the long-term relationships that foster and sustain true fan loyalty. Rather than just providing a membership card and access to tickets and backstage passes when bands tour, Paid, Inc. seeks to develop fan experience events with the band members that just aren't available through other fan clubs. With other clients, we've had contests where the winners had exclusive lunches with a band member, we've hosted live chats with the band members for fans worldwide with instantaneous translation into five languages, and we've had a merchandise design contest where a band member actually wore the winner's item on stage. We believe these types of 'outside the box' activities will be particularly appreciated by more mature, discriminating fans who look beyond the hype and seek true entertainment and value in a fan club. We have the exciting opportunity to do the same with The Cars."
Whether or not this deal will apply to The New Cars only time will tell....

Archer USA Begins Production of K Sulton Signature Bass Guitar!
We know Kasim Sulton fans have been curious about the status of the Archer K Sulton Signature Bass Guitar. Many of you followed the Road Test website this past summer and fall as Kasim played developmental prototypes of this exciting new bass on tour with Meat Loaf.
The Road Test served its' purpose well, allowing Archer technicians to fine tune the K Sulton Signature Bass to perfection. Now, after over a year in the design phase, Kasim has given us the thumbs up and we are ready to move into production. This is great news! It means the K Sulton Signature Bass will soon be in the hands of those players and fans who have hotly anticipated its' arrival.
Those interested in purchasing a K Sulton can order now online at ksultonbass.com or by calling Joel Bohlen (Archer Guitar Sales Associate) at 262.789.7600 x195.
Kasim will be heading out on the road again soon and we plan on continuing the website to provide you with developing news on Kasim and the K Sulton Signature Bass Guitar. In this and this photo it looks like Kasim's cell phone is glued to his groin!

Kasim and The New Cars
08.45 - Kasim receives a mention on the 92.9 KISM Classic Rock website in an article about The New Cars.
In case it disappears at some point, it says:
"'NEW CARS' LINEUP COMPLETED, MUSIC ALREADY RECORDED
It seems that the lineup for the new version of The Cars has been set, although it's not officially confirmed. Todd Rundgren is handling lead vocals, with Elliot Easton back on guitar, and now bassist Kasim Sulton has announced that he's also on board, along with Cars keyboardist Gregg Hawkes and ex-Tubes drummer Prairie Prince, who's also been a member of Jefferson Starship for years. Sulton and Prince both have a long touring and recording history with Rundgren, so if it's true, they should have an easy time working together under the banner "The New Cars."
The information was posted on the Todd Rundgren fan site TRBazaar.com in the form of a letter from Sulton, but it couldn't be independently verified by press time.
The note also quotes Sulton as saying that music has already been recorded; that they might be on TV before this year is out; and that they'll make a live CD and DVD early next year, with a major tour to follow."
