13.45 - Kasim Sulton has updated his online journal and includes the comments "I'm pleased to tell you that we have secured a venue for the benefit concert to aid in the relief effort for the displaced in the wake of Katrina. It will be held in Savannah, Georgia on the same day we were to play in Biloxi, MS. Meat Loaf has agreed to allow me to do my short openning set at that show." (The link below indicates that the gig will be played the day after they were due to play Biloxi but I'm sure that more clarification will come later.)

Kasim in Durham, NH
10.15 - Tonight Kasim Sulton plays another concert on the Meat Loaf Hair Of The Dog Tour. This concert is at the Whittemore Center Arena in Durham, NH. This venue is a $30 million multi-purpose arena that opened in November 1995 and which only took 14 months to build. It is located on the University of New Hampshire campus in Durham. For concerts the hall can seat up to 7,500 fans.
Some interesting facts about the venue that are on the website include:
Patrons of the venue have consumed 182,000 pizzas over the last 7 years - enough to reach the top of Mt. Washington in one stack.
12 miles of hot dogs have been consumed - enough to stretch from the Whittemore Center to the Atlantic ocean!
To date 53,600 gallons of sodas have been purchased at the venue.
Tonight's concert starts at 7.30pm and the parking lots open 2 hours prior to that time. Tickets for the concert vary from $47 to $30 (plus charges). Seats are currently available in the twelfth row of the second block back on Kasim's side of the stage. So far no opening act is listed (so it's possible that Kasim may open!).

Reviews of The Basement Tapes
04.30 - Amazon.com has reviews by fans of The Basement Tapes. (The CD is available there for $16.98.) The comments include:
"How raw and full of creative energy the songs possesed."
"This is a great collection of songs by a very talented man and cool guy ....buy this CD today!! ........oh .........I know the basement well!"
"The man is talent personified!!"
"From start to finish just some really good pop-rock songs. Kasim sings and plays almost everything on this cd. I can't seem to take it out of the cd player!!!!"
"Kasim Sulton is a voice to be reckoned with .. A Great Bass player and a phenomenal background vocalist.. just ask Todd Rundgren, Meatloaf, Bon Jovi, Hall and Oates, Celine Dion and many many more."
"I saw Kasim perform solo during the summer of 2001, and he was fantastic. A great voice, lots of fun stories, and excellent guitar playing. He did a few songs from this CD: "Just A Little Bit" and "All The Right Reasons." After the show, I started looking for it and it took me awhile to find it (I couldn't find it in stores) but it was worth hunting down!"
"Don't Hold Me Back, if you've heard it live then you understand! It's just the perfect vehicle for Kasim's voice..."
"Kasim wrote (or co-wrote) ALL the tracks and he plays almost all the instruments too showing how truly talented he is!"
"It is great to see Kasim gaining popularity on his own. He has the ability and the music."
"I highly recommend it!"

|
KSultonBass.com updated
01.15 - KSultonBass.com has been updated about the recent concerts. A great quote from Kasim in the Travelogue section is "Summer tours. Lots of fun. Open air venues, everyones family coming to the show at one point or another, the kids, the laughs ... it's all good.
I've been doing this now for the past 29 summers give or take a few. Here in this country and abroad and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Kasim at Scranton, PA
01.00 - Tonight Kasim Sulton plays another concert on the Meat Loaf Hair Of The Dog Tour. This concert is at the Ford Pavilion at Montage Mountain in Scranton, PA and tickets are available in the 27th row in the center are still available for this concert. Reserved tickets are $49.50 and $39.50 (plus charges) and lawn tickets are also $39.50. The concert starts at 8.00pm.
Concerts are held "rain or shine" and the weather forecast for tonight is partly cloudy with a low of 55 degrees. Blankets and "low profile" lawn chairs (i.e. less than 9 inches) are permitted in the lawn area.
The venue has a great spiel about cameras:
Cameras - our favorite nightmare.
We have to be honest here....cameras drive us crazy. Some artists allow them, some do not and worse yet sometimes they tell us they do but then change their mind once they arrive at the venue for their show.
In general the shows that do allow cameras allow disposable cameras or small personal (non-professional) cameras that do not have large detachable lenses.
Many artists and tours have a more restrictive "no cameras of any kind" policy.
As mentioned above some artists and tours even have a policy that changes from time to time based on whether they have had complaints at recent shows on their tour about fans taking too many pictures including disruptive flash shots.
These changes in a show camera policy have even been known to change on the day of an event. For the latest policy please check the event information page usually posted about a week prior to the show taking place.
If you do bring a camera for events where they are not allowed you may be asked to return it to your vehicle.
If you do bring a disposable camera when they are allowed, please do not approach the stage or stand in an aisle to take pictures. This can be annoying to other patrons and perhaps even unsafe.
Phew!
On an easier note the venue offers a wide selection of food which includes gyros, hoagies, pizza, grilled chicken, sandwiches, cheeseburgers, beer, wine, frozen cocktails, mixed drinks and soft drinks.
John Waite (playing an acoustic set) will be the opening act.

Kasim posts an e-mail message
04.00 - This morning Kasim Sulton posted a message to his mailing list which included the paragraph:
"On a much more serious note, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the recent devastation that occurred here. We were scheduled to play in Biloxi in two weeks. Amazingly, there is hardly anything left there. It's so sad.
Meat Loaf is trying to put together a benefit concert on the day we were supposed to have performed there. We're trying to see if we can do it in Hollywood, FLA. but as of yet there is no firm plans in place. As soon as I know something about it I will post it to you".
The good news is that Kasim still hopes to open some of the US concerts.

KasimInfo.co.uk
05.15 - The KasimInfo.co.uk section of the website is down at the moment. As well as focusing on the part of Kasim's career in the UK, KasimInfo.co.uk hosts a lot of the videos and photos that contribute to this section of the site so there are things that won't be visible at the moment.
The reason that it is down is because I am in the process of moving it to a new server. I used to have unlimited space at the company where I used to host it but now they have put a limit of 1GB and 10GB of downloads a month it has become too expensive to continue hosting it there as the site exceeds both. When I've moved .com websites it just involves e-mails and only takes a couple of days but moving a .co.uk site requires payment and snail-mailing forms so the site will unfortunately been off-line for a few days.

Kasim in Holmdel, NJ
05.00 - Tonight Kasim Sulton plays another concert on the Meat Loaf Hair Of The Dog Tour. This concert is at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ and is a venue which Kasim has played several times. The venue is located at Exit 116 off the Garden State Parkway.
This amphitheatre accommodates 17,500 guests and features both reserved and general admission seating. There are 7,000 comfortable theatre-style seats in the open-air pavilion and room for another 10,500 fans on the lawn. The venue website states "Guests are welcome to bring personal lawn chairs into the amphitheater. To ensure clear sightlines for all our guests, only low lawn chairs with a seat no higher than 9 inches off the ground are permitted" so watch out for venue officials walking around with tape measures! The website also says "Guests are welcome to bring blankets with them" but the weather forecast for tonight is partly cloudy with a low of only 69 degrees so blankets will probably be unneccessary.
Doors open for the concert at 6.30pm and the show starts at 8.00pm. John Waite (playing an acoustic set) is the opening act. Tickets for this concert are $65.00, $39.50 and $20.00 (lawn seats). There are $65 tickets available in the 8th row of the third level back (level with the sound desk).

KSultonBass.com updated
15.00 - KSultonBass.com has been updated about the Mohegan Sun Casino concert last week. There are some great quotes from Kasim in the Archer Notes section about his bass. They include "I've used it exclusively on over 30 Meat Loaf shows and I'm satisfied with it. No, wait ... I'm not just satisfied, I'm extremely PROUD of it and "This Bass is an instrument of the highest quality and I challenge anyone who picks one up to play it to say otherwise.

Clck here to read the full article. There is also the comment there that the company may sell some of it's operations.

Kasim on Unstoppable by Sounding Rick
01.45 - In case the way I phrased it was ambigious, Unstoppable by Sounding Rick (the album on which Kasim plays bass, sings background vocals and produced) is available on CDBaby.com at the pre-release price of $10. The album is officially released on 1st September.

Kasim in Vienna, VA
01.30 - Tonight Kasim Sulton plays another concert on the Meat Loaf Hair Of The Dog Tour. This concert is at the Filene Center in WolfTrap in Vienna, VA.
Tickets for this concert are $40 "in-house" and $25 for the lawn (plus charges). There are only single seats left in the seated area (the best I could find is Row PP which is about 50 rows back) or multiple seats are available in the lawn area.
The Filene Center originally opened in 1971 but on 4th April 1982 a fire completely destroyed the facility so a newer structure was built of Douglas Fir and Southern Yellow Pine. 3,868 of the seating is under cover with open sides that look out onto the tall trees and rolling hills of the park. The remainder of the seating (3,160) is uncovered on a sloping lawn where patrons can bring picnics to enjoy before and during the performance. The total capacity is 7,028. The stage is 116' wide x 64' deep x 102' high.
The weather forecast for tonight is partly cloudy with lows in the upper 50s and north winds 10 to 15 mph.
Jonny Lives! will be the opening act at this concert.
Many thanks to Stephanie Regan for some of the photos in this section.

Saturday 20th August 2005 - Kasim plays a Meat Loaf concert tonight at Allen County Fair in Lima, Ohio
|
Kasim in Lima
05.00 - During the European leg of the Meat Loaf Hair Of The Dog Tour the concerts were mainly played at the weekends (during one period they only played 1 concert in 10 days!). On the US leg they are mainly playing concerts every other day (this link pictorially shows this). One exception was the past couple of days when they had 2 days off between concerts (although they had to travel 819 miles on one of the days).
The concert that Kasim Sulton will be playing tonight is at the Allen County Fair in Lima, Ohio. This fairground has been hosting concerts for 30 years and only once has had to cancel a concert due to the weather (it is an outdoor venue). The forecast for today is "a 50 percent chance of rain in the afternoon and lingering showers and thunderstorms at night". This venue holds 7,500 people and earlier this week the fair management was lamenting the fact that only two thirds (5,000) of the tickets were sold, although often people will turn up on the night (however the acts on Sunday night have only sold about 3,300 tickets). There is no opening act listed for the concert so there's a chance that Kasim may open! |

KSultonBass.com updated
11.00 - KSultonBass.com has been updated about the last few gigs of the tour. A touching part is here when Kasim talks about one of his daughters being at the concert. Kasim also says that he expects his bass to go into production in September! |
Kasim on Unstoppable
01.30 - In case it disappears at some point, the blurb on CDBaby.com about Rick Reynolds' album Unstoppable (on which Kasim Sulton plays bass and sings background vocals, as well as producing the album) says about Kasim:
"Produced by Kasim Sulton, "Unstoppable" is a quirky upbeat funk/rock CD with 14 great songs featuring tight guitar, horns as well as Rick's and Kasim's unique voices.
In 2003, Rick began a dialog with Kasim Sulton (renowned bassist for Todd Rundgren's Utopia, Hall & Oates, Meat Loaf, Joan Jett, Patty Smith, Celine Dion, etc.) to see if he would be interested in producing and playing on his new record called "Unstoppable".
In August of 2004 production began on the 14 song release with Kasim commuting from New York to Florida. After delays caused by damage to the studio by Hurricane Ivan and tour commitments, the record was finally mixed in May of 2005."

Kasim's production of Unstoppable
06.30 - I posted the news about Rick Reynolds' album Unstoppable yesterday to a few mailing lists and Brad Page made the following response which contains some interesting technical info:
"Rick upgraded his studio before recording this album and purchased most of the gear from my company (Professional Audio Design). He's a nice guy. The tracks were recorded using Nuendo and he has the new ID Controller from WK Audio to allow more of a traditional console rather than just tweaking software with a mouse. Most of the processng was done via plug-ins, he has a couple of Universal Audio UAD cards. One of his main mic preamps is the Audient ASP008 w/digital output card (I use one of these mic pres myself and love it-- one of the best deals for the money!), and his monitors are a pair of Dynaudio BM5A's with a BM-9S Subwoofer.
He said Kasim has used Nuendo before but had never used the ID Controller, but after a hour or so he was very comfortable with it."
Brad also later added that according to Rick, Kasim doesn't like mixing with a subwoofer so they apparently turned it off
during the mixing process.
