12.00 - Although it doesn't mention Kasim Sulton by name, there's an article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that gives some background to the Patty Smyth and Scandal mini tour. Many thanks to the kind person who forwarded this link.
03.00 - Despite hundreds of people attanding the gigs, there have been very few reviews of any of the Patty Smyth and Scandal gigs placed on the Internet. One comment posted on a Todd Rundgren mailing list was:
"I went to see Scandal (featuring Patty Smyth) last week in North Jersey (featuring Kasim Sulton). I actually knew the words to most of the songs - The Warrior, Goodby To You, Love's Got A Line On You, Hands Tied, No Mistakes, Downtown Train, Beat of a Heart.
BTW, Thommy Price is a great drummer. He really lays down a great foundation. The band, excluding Kasim (who went home to put the babies
to bed), stuck around to give autographs. I think I offended Thommy when I mentioned Kasim as the reason I knew who he was. I mentioned I
thought he'd be great playing with TR and he said Todd would fire him in a minute because he plays too hard.
They ended the show with a great version of River Deep, Mountain High."
02.45 - Just a reminder for all the Patty Smyth and Scandal fans who have started looking at this website (thanks for the e-mails!), that Kasim Sulton's official website is KasimSulton.com.

17.30 - The New York recording studio The Hit Factory has closed. This is a recording studio that Kasim Sulton often recorded at including working on the Meat Loaf albums Bat Out Of Hell and Bat Out Of Hell II and several sessions working with Jim Steinman. Although it doesn't mention Kasim by name, this is an extract from the press release regarding the closure of the studio:
"New York's famous Hit Factory recording studio going silent
NEW YORK - The Hit Factory - the famed Manhattan music studio where John Lennon spent his last hours, Bruce Springsteen laid down tracks for "Born in the U.S.A," and Whitney Houston hit her highest notes - is shutting its doors.
Doomed by the digital revolution, the rock `n' roll temple's owners Thursday said they will move their West 54th Street headquarters to a smaller facility in Miami within a month.
The news saddened industry veterans and employees of The Hit Factory, which for three decades has been home to music royalty from Barbra Streisand to Beyonce.
"Every major artist has worked here," studio tech Luis Ghigliotty, 52, said outside the building, where the hallways are lined with platinum records.
Music producer Jerry Ragovoy opened the studio on West 48th Street in 1968, initially as a place in the city where his own artists could record. Pretty soon, other musicians were clamoring to work there, and Ragovoy began
renting the room to the likes of Roberta Flack and Iron Butterfly.
"The studio was a Who's Who of rock `n' roll," Ragovoy said. "Before you knew it, the calls were coming in all day long, and I found it difficult to book time myself." In 1975, he sold the place to Ed Germano, who eventually moved it six blocks uptown to a plush 100,000-square-foot facility with seven recording rooms and five mastering suites.
Under Germano's ownership, the studio lived up to its name.
Stevie Wonder, his first customer, recorded some of "Songs in the Key of Life" there. Springsteen, Eric Clapton, Paul Simon, Madonna and David Bowie were regulars. Lennon and Yoko Ono set up shop at The Hit Factory when they recorded "Double Fantasy." The ex-Beatle was on his way home from the studio when he was murdered in 1980.
In 1994, The Hit Factory made musical history when it collected 41 Grammy nominations for songs recorded, mastered or mixed there - including Houston's soundtrack for "The Bodyguard."
The Hit Factory's streak was hottest in the 1970s and 1980s, but it remained one of the top studios in the hip-hop era - even becoming a battlefield in the rap wars when 50 Cent was stabbed outside in 2000.
Big-name studios like The Hit Factory once had a lock on the recording industry, but technological advances have made it cheaper and easier for stars to build their own state-of-the-art facilities, often in their homes. In a statement, The Hit Factory acknowledged the industry is moving away from large-scale studios to "destination" locations like Miami that offer sunny weather and a hot nightlife."

13.30 - The set list, some photos and some comments of the Patty Smyth and Scandal gig on Friday in Sayreville, NJ has been added to the Gigs section of the site or click here for the direct link.
08.00 - Although it gets his career history incorrect, there's a quote by Kasim in this article about Meat Loaf on The Dallas Morning News just after the release of Bat Out Of Hell II. In case it disappears at some point, Kasim's mention is:
""Critics tend to not take him seriously," says band member Kasim Sulton, who left Todd Rundgren's band, Utopia, in the '70s to play with Meat Loaf. "Most critics' image of what a rock star should be is this Jon Bon Jovi-ish, Steven Tyler-ish, Simon Le Bon-like person. Meat Loaf doesn't fall into any category. They don't like what they can't pigeonhole, so they tend to mock it.""
01.15 - Over the past few days there's been a topic on the BeyondAwizard mailing list about Kasim's lead vocals on various Utopia songs. The comments included:
"I've never been much for a Kaz lead vocal."
"What what what???????? I hated him when he first joined the band. But I grew to love his voice. He sounds like an angel."
"Doesn't like Kaz's lead vocals???? 50 lashes with a wet noodle and 100 spins of Set Me Free played at "11"!"
"Seriously, nothing against Kasim, I just find his voice a little boyish I suppose for my taste. But he does excel on I Will Wait, Maybe I Could Change etc, and I actually prefer his vocal over Todd's half-ass take on Umbrella Man. Come to think of it, Libertine wouldn't be the same without the Kaz vocal.
But believe it or not, I always liked Roger and Willie's lead vocals over Kasim's. Maybe it's just the songs I like better."
"Got to chime in here and say 2 of my all time favorite tunes are sung by Kasim - "Mimi Gets Mad" and "I'm In Love With A Thinker". And "Maybe I Could Change" and "I Will Wait" - that's 4. Incredible stuff with amazing singing."
"How about "Style". Great tune where he really belts it out."
"I just opened "Style" and I gotta say this song give me goose bumps!! Especially his part in the chours and the end where he scats out at the end."
"I always thought the Todd/Roger/Willie/Kaz Utopia was a great combo -- different from the other Utopias, more poppy, less prog, but I saw them maybe 50 times and loved every one. I don't think the records truly captured the magic. And Kasim's vocals were a big part of the band's chemistry-- not to mention his extremely melodic bass playing, which sort of reminds me of McCartney's in that it is tuneful and punchy. Of course there was some anti-Kaz backlash because he was essentially co-lead vocalist, and folks wanted Todd singing. But still, some of his vocal turns -- "Back On The Street," "Trapped," "Swing To The Right" -- are among the band's best songs."
00.15 - Although it's not definite, sadly it looks unlikely that Kasim Sulton will be playing at Summerfest in Milwaukee this year. Currently there are Meat Loaf gigs booked on 2nd July and 18th July in Europe and Summerfest runs from 30th June to 10th July.

00.15 - Kasim Sulton receives a mention in this article in the Delaware Coast Press which gives a background to the 8 date Patty Smyth and Scandal Tour which starts tonight. "Speaking by telephone from New York City on Monday, where the musicians were gathering for a rehearsal, Keith Mack said he was excited about the tour. "It's going to be fun," he said. "It's been a little hectic. We've been e-mailing each other song ideas for the set list."
Original band members participating include Mack, vocalist Patty Smyth, guitarist Zach Smith, keyboardist Benji King and drummer Tommy Price. Kasim Sulton will fill in for the group's late bassist, Ivan Elias.
The musicians are taking time off from their various personal endeavours for the tour. "Zach lives in San Francisco," Mack said. "Tommy is usually busy playing with Joan Jett and The Blackhearts. It isn't easy getting everyone together." "
Thursday 27th January 2005
17.45 - Tickets for the Arrow Rock Festival on 11th June go on sale on 12th February.
06.00 - Due to the disgusting nature of some posts made this morning in the Shoutbox on the messageboard attached to KasimInfo.com, the board has now been closed ....permanently.
It's sad that a small handful of Kasim's fans have managed to close both this board and the one attached to KasimSulton.com but personally I'm not prepared to spend my money on hosting a board where people post such lies and filth both about Kasim and about his fans. Before posting, I wish people would pause to think of the hurt they are causing and the possible harm to Kasim's reputation. Even Freedom Of Speech must have some limits.
I'd like to thank everybody who contributed in a positive way to the messageboard over the past 20 months that it was in existence and a special thanks to all the moderators who helped keep an eye on the board.
It's a shame that once again the few have ruined it for the majority.
02.30 - Another Meat Loaf festival with the English band Status Quo has been discovered on the Internet. It's on Saturday 2nd July in Kerry, Ireland and tickets go on sale this Saturday. Many thanks to ChrisNI for this info.
