When he reviewed his set in November he called it "background music" and gave him two and a half stars, for the January show he only gives him two stars and compares it to "elevator music".

12.00 - Kasim Sulton receives a mention in a press release from Sanctuary Records about the UK release of Todd Rundgren's new album. As it will disappear in time, it says in part "Rundgren undertakes the first leg of his U.S. tour on April 8th to promote 'Liars'. The live band includes former Utopia bass guitarist Kasim Sulton, Jesse Gress (guitar), John Ferenzik (keyboards) and The Tube's Prairie Prince (drums). The live show promises to have a totally mesmerizing hi-tech vibe. ". They also show what is supposed to be the cover of the UK version of Liars (the Japanese version is the more sophisticated one!). Many thanks to Roger D. Linder for this link.

However the BC Rich Bronze Series Guitar that has been signed by Meat Loaf and all of his 1993 - 1997 band was sold for $305 after 10 bids.

18.45 - Deb Matheson has updated her website with loads of photos of the Meat Loaf concert in Glasgow, Scotland. There are too many photos of Kasim to add individual links to them all!
18.30 - Frank Ciapanna has updated his website with some photos of Kasim Sulton's solo gig last weekend.
08.15 - There is a news item on the TRConnection website about Liars. Click here to read it but the main points are that the album cover shown on this page is for the release in Japan only and the album will be released on:
3/17 - Japan
4/5 - UK
4/6 - US
There is also going to be "a major announcement next week from the UK promoting the new CD".

Saturday 14th February 2004

08.30 - The error on the messageboard attached to KasimInfo.com is still being worked on and I will try to get it open again as soon as possible. The messageboard is backed up on a daily basis so little (if anything) should be lost. (The rumors that I caused a power failure for half of London at the same time are not true!)

Wednesday 11th February 2004
10.30 - The German Meat Loaf Fan Club website has been updated with some reviews and photos of the recent UK concerts.
In Judith Otten's review of 18th December concert, she says "Kasim eröffnete die Show mit drei Accustic-Songs seiner neuen CD, kurze Pause, nocheinmal gaaaaaaaaanz tiefdurchatmen............" which according to an automatic translation site means "Kasim opened the Show with three Acoustic Songs of its new CD, short break, still once gaaaaaaaaanz low-breathes deeply............".
In Ingo Becker's review of 18th December concert, he says "Kasim war der Support-act und nach 3 Liedern war auch schon wieder Schluss" which acording to an automatic translation site translates as "Kasim was the support act and after 3 songs was already again conclusion"
and
"Wie sich dann nach der Show herausstellte, fand Kasim die 3 ganz sympatisch. Denkt euch den Rest... :-)" which is supposed to translate as " How turned out then after the Show, Kasim found 3 completely sympatisch. Thinks you the remainder...: -)"
Ingo Becker has a photo of Kasim Sulton's opening set on 18th December here.
There is a photo of Kasim at a Meet and Greet - it's a very rare photo as as he actually does have a hair out of place!
Tamara Angeletti has loads of great photos of the final concert in Glasgow including the following of Kasim:

08.30 - The good news is that Kasim Sulton is receiving some airplay, the bad news is that it all happened last weekend when I was en-route to Staten Island so was too late to post here - sorry!
The radio interview with Kasim on the Kweevak.com radio station was repeated on Friday at 3.45pm.
Kasim Sulton was the featured artist on the TRBazaar.com radio show called Acoustic Twist which aired on Sunday morning.
07.45 - Kasim Sulton is currently mentioned on the front page of TheMechanism website (the company that designs and maintains KasimSulton.com). As it may disappear at some point, it says:
"February 7, 2004
themechanism launches new site for Kasim Sulton
» themechanism launched a new web site for touring singer/songwriter Kasim Sulton today. In addition a limited number of posters and CD's were produced in conjunction with a solo gig while he took a break from touring with Meat Loaf.
"

05.00 - If you have $295 spare, you can purchase a 1978 Fender Precision Bass that was owned by and has been autographed by Kasim Sulton. Click here to view it. The auction ends on Sunday and the reserve has not yet been met after 17 bids. (The description is quite nice as it says "It is a one owner guitar and was autographed by Kasim Sulton in 2001. Kasim Sulton is best known for being a member of Todd Rundgren's offshoot band Utopia. He is also one of the most in-demand session musicians in rock & roll. He contributed bass and vocals to Meat Loaf's album 'Bat Out Of Hell'. He has also recorded and performed with Patty Smyth, Cheap Trick and was briefly a member of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (just to name a few)."). Alternatively if you only have $199 to spare you can purchase a BC Rich Bronze Series Guitar that has been signed by Meat Loaf and all of his 1993 - 1997 band. Click here to view it. The auction ends on Sunday and there has only been one bid. More realisticially priced for most people is a copy of Kasim at $9.99. (The auction ends on Monday and currently there are no bids on it.)
04.15 - Click here for a thread by fans wishing Kasim good luck in Australia.
04.00 - Kasim Sulton has made a post on the messageboard attached to KasimInfo.com. (As it won't be disappearing!) click here to read it.

From DouglasRKennedy.com:

Kasim Sulton Solo Gig @ Dock Street

I became a Todd Rundgren/Utopia fan in 1984 when I saw and heard Utopia's song "Crybaby" on MTV (I was seventeen years old at the time.) I became a Kasim Sulton fan as soon as I heard his singing and bass playing on what I still consider my favorite album of all time: Utopia's "Oblivion". I eventually came to own and study everything Todd and Utopia ever released (and didn't release as it were!) Each video, album, and interview played a major role in shaping my life as a musician. I loved everything about this band and it's members, so even after they disbanded in 1986, I continued to follow all of their musical endeavors. Aside from Todd (who in my book is, in fact, Godd), Kasim seemed to maintain the highest public profile, playing live with a slew of artists (Joan Jett, Hall & Oates, Meat Loaf), releasing his Price/Sulton album with old pal and drummer Thommy Price (Billy Idol, Mink DeVille, Joan Jett), and doing countless gigs as a session musician..... As I began to take my music more seriously, I became fascinated and inspired by Kasim's tenacity and perseverance at staying alive in the often times cruel and unkind music business......

Fast foward to the year 2001. Something posesses me to write Kasim a letter (who the hell do I think I am?!) offering him my guitar playing services for a solo acoustic show he had booked in Philly (where I had been living since 1989, playing in my band Isle Of Q). Long story short, I wound up sitting in with Kasim on a few songs at that show which slowly led to my role as his live guitar player. We've done a couple of small "tours" in the last three years (driving around together, getting lost together, and making each other laugh (we do a lot of laughing together.) The ultimate was when I got to play on his latest solo album Quid Pro Quo (Sphere Sound Records).....

At this point I like to think of Kasim and I as friends. He's like a teacher, a buddy, a big brother, and a role model wrapped in one. I treasure these last few years of playing with Kasim and getting to know him. I'm not sure it ever will sink in that this has actually happened to me. Quite literally a dream come true......

In any case, onto this past Saturday night! I arrived at Kasim's house around four thirty and was pleased to meet his Meat Loaf guitar tech Charlie. Charlie is Kasim's right hand man on the road and also happens to be a great guy. I learned a lot just by watching him out of the corner of my eye as he prepped Kasim's guitars and solved problems.....The Dock Street pub is located in lovely and scenic downtown Staten Island, right by the waterfront. Kasim had specially (and personally) prepared about eighty CDs of his various live performances opening for Meat Loaf to give away to his fans that evening. A classy touch. I was happy to meet Dave, Kasim's new website designer, at Soundcheck. He and his beautiful girlfriend were a pleasure (check out Dave's work at KasimSulton.com).....

SHOWTIME! The place was packed to the gills with fans from as far away as England and as close by as Staten Island. Sitting in the front row were Kasim's lovely mother Ernestine, his brother Lance, and what appeared to be everybody that Kasim had ever known from growing up on the Island.....Kasim's brother Alex sat in with us on bass for a few songs and he was teriffic. This was the first time in forty one years that Alex ever performed on stage with his brother. That alone was worth the price of admission!....

Kas kicked off the show solo with three tunes in a row. He then gave me a very nice introduction (he didn't even refer to me as Phyllis! ((Kas likes to embarrass me whenever he can which I love and look foward to)) ) ..... I hopped up onto the stage where I remained for the rest of the night (until the closing number "Across The Universe"). As Kasim was having the show filmed for a future DVD release (by a great guy called Steve Herrig), I had really worked hard at being prepared. The last thing I wanted to do was screw-up on stage and ruin a song! In fact, after the show, some of my friends mentioned that I didn't look around and smile as much as usual. This by no means was because I wasn't enjoying myself, but rather focusing on the job at hand: NOT SCREWING UP! Hahaha I hope I succeeded!......

Many of the kind folks who frequent this website (my buddies) were in attendance. Pebbles & her Sis, Rebecca & Lou (thanks for the tie!!), Gina, The DeCotis Clan, David & Dawn, Jennifer, Shelle, the two Doreens, Kris, Kristy & Sue (neither of whom I got to see or say hello to...damn!), Rita (thanks for the lip balm!!), Farnk (sic), and everybody else who I've had the pleasure of meeting through Kasim's music. I even got to shake hands and chat with Utopia drummer and pal of Kasim's Willie Wilcox! I'd met Willie once before and he seems like the world's nicest guy. It was just a wonderful evening all around.....

After a manly hug goodbye back at the Sulton estate, I wished Kas luck for his string of upcoming Meat Loaf dates in AUSTRALIA with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. As Meat's musical director, it's Kasim's job to make sure the band and orchestra are on the same page. Quite a responsibility, but just par for the course in the life of jet-setting pop star Kasim Sulton. My friend.

Tuesday 10th February 2004

11.15 - Also on Doug Kennedy's website Steve Herrig (Pushing Red Buttons) has said that he hopes that Kasim will be playing on his CD that is due to be released in 2005.
11.00 - On Doug Kennedy's website there is an interesting thread about Kasim's gig on Saturday including Doug's guitar solo on Alone.
10.45 - Doug Kennedy has coined a title for the live CD that was given out at Kasim's gig at Dock Street on Saturday: Kasim Sulton - Live In Europe! It is currently one of the CDs in Doug's CD player this week.
10.30 - According to a post on The Rockman Record (a messageboard about Jim Steinman) by someone who may or may not be Kati Mac (anyone can post under any name on that board), Bat Out Of Hell III is currently slated to be released in 2005 and she is supposed to be recording some vocals for the album in Fall 2004. If this does prove to be true then presumably Kasim Sulton will be recording around that time too.
09.00 - The release date of Todd Rundgren's forthcoming album Liars is currently 17th March in Japan and 7th April (a day before the tour starts) in US.

11.45 - There's a lovely section about Kasim on Doug Kennedy's website today. Hopefully this will be one that he will archive or it will be added to this page tomorrow as it's too good to only have online for one day.
10.30 - Click here for some reviews and photos of Kasim Sulton's gig on Saturday night, and here and here for more comments.

00.15 - Click here for a synopsis of Kasim Sulton's radio interview. Many thanks to Deb Matheson for this. As stated previously, providing I can get permisssion, a copy of this interview will be uploaded to KasimInfo.com soon.

Thursday 5th February 2004
18.00 - For today only, on the front page of MLUKFC.com the "Todays Events" section is about Kasim's radio interview. As it will disappear, it says:
"Kasim Sulton Live Internet Stream
Description: Kasim will be interviewed via telephone on the Kweevak.com Radio show / Internet stream. Kasim is expected to be interviewed at about 1.15am Friday morning (UK time) and http://www.kasiminfo.com/2004/02/05.html has the listening details plus how you can IM or telephone into the show.
"
17.30 - Click here and here for threads on what people think of the re-vamped KasimSulton.com.
10.30 - A second Todd Rundgren concert in Chicago, IL is now listed (tickets go on sale on Saturday) and a concert in Rochester, NY. The Todd Rundgren's Liars Tour section of the site has been updated with the links.
07.00 - The revamped KasimSulton.com is now online. Other than a totally new look, the other new things include a journal, some new audio clips and some new desktop downloads with new sections to be added soon.
05.30 - Here's a framed Kasim Sulton advert that was sold on E-Bay recently for $21.99.

Wednesday 4th February 2004
11.45 - In The Kasim Sulton Magazine that will be issued tomorrow, there is an article about Kasim's opening sets on the recent tour so I thought I would include this quote from it:
"Kasim Sulton played a short opening set at 19 of the 21 recent UK Meat Loaf concerts. At 17 of the concerts Kasim played a three song set and at the last two he played 4 songs.
The totals are:
19 - Sacrifice
18 - Don’t Hold Me Back
10 - Before She Was Gone
6 - Sometimes Love Is A Dangerous Thing
4 - Bully
1 - Cliché
1 - Across The Universe
In total Kasim played 59 songs out of a 7 song set and Sacrifice was played at each concert.
"
09.30 - Since Tuesday 13th January, according to WKOnline Quid Pro Quo has gone up a massive 101,353 places from #131, 677 to #30,324! (It is now only just outside the Top Thirty Thousand albums!) The Basement Tapes has gone up 300 places from #67,034 to #66,734 in the same period.
09.15 - The Sphere Sounds Records website has the following as part of their news on the front page of their site:
"Kasim Sulton's Quid Pro Quo compact disc nearly sold out "
Elsewhere on the front page it says:
"The Buy-One, Get-One 1/2 price Quid Pro Quo sale has been extended ! HURRY ! This limited edition CD is nearing SOLD OUT status."
08.15 - Kasim Sulton receives a mention on Doug Kennedy's website today. As his narrative disappears after a day, it says:
"Looking foward to getting together with Kasim Sulton this week to rehearse for Saturday night's gig. I hope he offers me a Peach Snapple. They're so damn refreshing and "peach-like" in their flavor."
Elsewhere on his site Doug has written "I'm up early here getting some work out of the way so I can practice my guitar parts tonight! Hahaha".
07.45 - Sadly another Meat Loaf website has closed - MeatLoafOnLine.com. It was a site that was open for 7 years and its messageboard even had a section for discussions about Kasim.
05.00 - As spotted by Janet Spahr, according to Doug Kennedy's website he is currently playing the Sugarbomb album Bully in his CD player. The title track of this album is the cover song that Kasim Sulton sang recently in his opening set at the Glasgow, Newcastle, London (two times) and Sheffield concerts. On the last three occasions Randy Flowers also joined Kasim on guitar. Click here to view a videoclip that emphasises Kasim's singing and here to hear both guitars clearly. Click here to read the lyrics (it was amusing to see at the Meat Loaf concerts that Kasim had the lyrics of the song on the stage in front of him!). Doug Kennedy has refused to either confirm or deny that he is rehearsing the track for Kasim's gig on Saturday but during the recent online chat Kasim did mention that they would be playing a different song.
