07.15 - Another new concert has been added to the . It's on 9th September and is in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Many thanks to Vicki Pearson for this info.

Tuesday 5th August 2003
12.45 - A new concert has been added to the Gigs section of the site. It's on 16th September in Muskegon, MI. Many thanks to David M. Driskell for this info.
08.30 - According to a post made by Meat Loaf on MLUKFC.com the concert in Anaheim, CA that Kasim Sulton was to have played (and possibly opened) has also been cancelled.

Monday 4th August 2003
18.00 - Apparently the concert tonight in Lancaster, CA has just been cancelled - the official reason given is that Meat Loaf has lost his voice.
12.45 - There's an interesting detailed account of the audience's behavior at the concert on Saturday night. It only mentions Kasim briefly (including questioning his behavior).
05.45 - There is now quite a list of different artists that Kasim Sulton has played with over the years, plus some details about ones which didn't work out.
05.30 - On the DouglasR.Kennedy.com website there is a section about which CDs Doug is playing at the moment. This week (and hopefully all weeks) he lists Quid Pro Quo.

Sunday 3rd August 2003
12.45 - Some photos of Kasim Sulton at the Outagamie County Fair in Seymour, WI have been added to the Gigs section of the site or click here for the direct link.

08.30 - According to a post on MLUKFC.com Meat Loaf's set at the concert last night in Kelseyville, California lasted ten minutes short of two hours. Apparently they dropped Kasim's favorite Love You Out Loud. They played at this venue last year and are only playing two new songs from the album than they did then. They are also now saying that the album will be released "around the middle of September".

Saturday 2nd August 2003
05.30 - The Gigs section of the site has been updated with some ticketing links and some cosmetic changes.

Friday 1st August 2003
14.15 - A review and some photos of Kasim's concert with Meat Loaf in Monticello, Iowa have been added to the Gigs section of the site or click here for the direct link.
12.00 - Any comments about the Buzzine.com review can be posted here.
10.30 - A review of Quid Pro Quo has been added to Buzzine.com - it looks like a review by someone who actually knows his stuff too!
07.45 - There was a nice batch of posts yesterday on a Todd Rundgren mailing list about Kasim's solo shows including the following comments:
"My first show I was amazed at what a great entertainer he was, Staten Island accent and all (never heard him speak in the Utopia shows). My Second show I was so impressed by his Utopian material that came so alive. My third show I was smitten with what a great guy he is and his professionalism. My last show I do over and over again!"
"I'm mostly a lurker here, but I agree. Kasim solo shows are terrific. I was surprised to see what an incredible all around musician he is and such a nice guy. But I can't go the extra mile to see a Meat show no matter how much I would like to support Kasim."
"Although I've only seen Meat Loaf perform live once, back in February 1978, he put on an excellent performance. If I can afford it ever again, I wouldn't mind seeing him again, now that Kasim's in his band."
"I'll agree with the majority - Kas live is great! I've only caught 3 songs live (before last year's Meat Loaf show), but have a number of boots of him, what a voice - if only Todd's voice had stayed so pure after so many years. On Meat Loaf live - if you like some (any) of his songs, and enjoy a "performance", you would probably like his show. It's more/different than a regular rock concert, much more of a "show". Hard to beat the musicians he has in the band (thanks to Kas, of course)."
06.45 - According to a post on MLUKFC.com Meat Loaf's set at the concert last night in Reno, NV only lasted just over two hours again. Apparently they changed the set list slightly (possibly this was due to either venue restrictions or Meat Loaf not being able to coninue with that length of set or possibly because several posts on some boards have commented on the fact that lots of people were leaving before the end of the concerts). Apparently the single in US will now be released around 15th August.
06.15 - Click here for 10 photos of Kasim Sulton at the Las Vegas concert from Paul Crook's official website.

Thursday 31st July 2003
13.15 - Can anybody else add the names of anymore artists that Kasim has worked with?
11.00 - It was probably inevitable that sooner or later a Kasim mention would appear on a porno site and it does on Sex&GutsMagazine.com (site probably best not viewed by anyone under 18)! It's in an interview with Sturgis Nikides (the Kasim mention is about halfway down the page) and it says:
"There was a fantastic band called The Rats. The bass player and the lead singer was Kasim Sulton, who has been a member of Todd Rundgren’s Utopia all these years. He also plays with Meat Loaf. The guitar player was a guy named David Rao, who went on to become David Johansen’s guitar player. The drummer was a guy named Frankie LaRocca who is now the president of A&R for Atlantic Records. All these guys were very influential, and they were cover bands in Staten Island."
10.00 - Kasim Sulton receives a brief mention in a negative review about the Meat Loaf concert in Las Vegas - in fact Kasim's mention is the only good thing in the review! As these boards have a habit of disappearing, it says:
"The only good thing about the show was Kasim on bass."
08.15 - Sorry about no updates yesterday but the phones were down for most of the day. There'll be loads of updates today to catch up!

Tuesday 29th July 2003
10.45 - According to a post on a Jim Steinman mailing list Meat Loaf's new album Couldn't Have Said It Better (on which Kasim Sulton plays bass and sings background vocals) is #5 in the album charts in Denmark. Click here for confirmation.

08.15 - There's a fascinating new old interview with Kasim Sulton online from 1980. Click here to read it (there are also some great photos too). Many thanks to Wendy Carson for forwarding the link.
03.15 - Finally a comment about Kasim Sulton's opening set on the tour has been added to the Internet. Click here to read it but unfortunately it's not a good one. As periodically items from this board are culled, it says:
"Kasim started his own songs to the pre-performance and even though they were OK, I would suggest he continue working with the band."
Many thanks to Jennifer Salyer for forwarding this.

Sunday 27th July 2003
08.30 - According to a post by M. Brevard on the Meat Loaf UK Fan Club messageboard Meat Loaf's new album Couldn't Have Said It Better (on which Kasim Sulton plays bass and sings background vocals) will be released in US on Sanctuary Records on 23rd September and the single on 15th August.

Saturday 26th July 2003

18.45 - Michael Harkins made a great post to the BeyondAwizard mailing list entitled Todd and Kasim:
"Kasim has always been to hit the high notes without missing a beat.... Contrary to Kasim's recent interview... I (for one) would really love to see a Utopia reunion... or at the very least a 4-7 piece band (including Kasim on Bass and Vocals) to perform a variety of Utopia and Todd Rundgren songs. Kasim could easily handle (or double up on) the upper register vocal parts that Todd can no longer handle. I have seen Todd perform Cliche (one of his most beautiful songs IMO) at least 20 times over the past 25 years.
Unfortunately, I haven't seen Kasim perform solo as of yet. (I really wish he would play some West Coast solo gigs). Kasim's voice at the three shows I caught during the Power Trio Tour was outstanding. That his voice complements Todd's so perfectly is a testament to Kasim's talent and ability to make those around him sound so much better.
Todd would be a fool not to work with Kasim again (schedule permitting). Also, what better showcase could possibly exist for Kasim's solo material then on tour with Todd (considering how many fans in the audience would be Utopia/Kasim fans)? Kasim could perform a 5-8 song opening solo set - followed by an hour and 45 minutes to 2 hour band performance.
But who knows if Todd would be gracious and secure enough to allow Kasim the solo spotlight for a 5-8 song opening set each night? How about this line-up; Todd, Kasim, Jesse, Moogy and Prairie?
"
14.30 - Some photos of Kasim Sulton on Can Russell Watson Cut It? have been added to the Gigs section of the site.
13.30 - A copy of Kasim's first solo album is available currently on E-Bay. The opening bid of $9.99 has not yet been met and the auction ends on 2nd August.
13.15 - Vibe-Rate ("The Pulse of Music") mentions the recent Kasim Sulton interview on the front page of their website.
12.00 - Kasim Sulton received a very brief mention in a concert review by Lady B for the concert last night in Denver, CO:
"Near the end of Cyndi Lauper's encore this guys walked by about a foot in front of me in a black shirt. He was just about by me when I realized it was Kasim! i think he may have heard my Kasim exclamation but he had his head down I think so no one would recognise him and kept walking. That's the closest I've come to talking to him."
The reason that so few concert reviews have been posted to this page is that there just have been so few posted anywhere on the Internet. Usually by now there would have been a batch of "Meat Loaf was wonderful - I want to have his baby" types but there haven't even been many of those to date.
11.30 - The Mirror Of The Soul website has a review of the Seymour, WI concert. Although it doesn't mention Kasim too much, there are some great photos of him on the page....just look at the thumbnails for a white shirt!
06.30 - The earlier items from this page have been moved to a new page (the link is at the bottom of this page) which should make things load faster.
06.15 - Frank Ciapanna has added back to his site some of his photos of Kasim Sulton.
06.00 - A row of buttons for the main items of the site have been added to this page. The full site index is available at the bottom of this and most pages on the site.

06.15 - Kasim Sulton will be on television tonight on BBC1 on British TV. The show is called Can Russell Watson Cut It?. It is described as "One-off programme in which opera singer Russell Watson attempts to make the grade in a completely different genre of music - rock. His ultimate goal is to perform a duet with Meat Loaf at a concert in Los Angeles, and to help him achieve that he takes advice from a team including Def Leppard singer Joe Elliot, to help him attain the correct image, and from voice coach Seth Riggs. Narrated by Liza Tarbuck." Kasim will be shown during the Meat Loaf concert part which was recorded on 4th March, but in New York and not Los Angeles!

18.15 - There's also been quite a discussion today on Meat Loaf concerts in general and Paradise By The Dashboard Light in particular.
18.00 - There have been several posts on the BeyondAwizard mailing list today that were instigated by Kasim's comments in his recent interview about Todd Rundgren not wishing Utopia to be commercially successful (you have to be a member of the list to read the posts).
06.30 - Of the 14 votes cast so far, half the people believe that this will be Meat Loaf's last World tour but that he will play some concerts to promote Bat Out Of Hell III. Click here to read people's comments.
