New Kasim Sulton interview online
15.00 - Zikannuaire.com (a French website) has a recent interview with Kasim Sulton online here. (That link is to the English version of the interview.) However be warned that that page automatically plays music as it opens.
There's no interview date but it seems quite recent and Kasim answers questions on the various instruments he plays, working with Todd Rundgren and Meat Loaf, playing live and his solo band.
One great quote from Kasim in the interview is "Playing in front of an audience is a very exciting thing. You only get one chance to play and sing a song. And although you'd rather not make them, mistakes are a given. That's the beauty of a live performance. I get inspired playing in front of a crowd of people. Wether they realize it or not, they encourage me to give my all, to sing and play the best I possibly can. Also, there is something about seeing the faces of the people as you perform. There might be 1,000 people or 10, it always feels the same. Sharing a gift that was given to me with them."
Kasim also says "I'm currently working on a new solo record which I plan to have completed by the end of the year."
Many thanks to Florence Bouvrot for forwarding the link.

Kasim Sulton in Woodstock, NY tonight
16.00 - Tonight Kasim Sulton plays the first of three gigs this week as part of Todd Rundgren's band. The gig tonight is at The Bearsville Theater in Woodstock, NY and they will be playing a set based on the Robert Johnson music which they played earlier this year.
Of course Utopia was heavily associated with the Woodstock area as this is where they made their albums back in the 1970s and early 1980s. The idea of The Bearsville Theater was originaly conceived by Albert Grossman (the owner and president of Bearsville Records and was the person who Kasim wrote Set Me Free to) and was eventually opened in 1989 by his widow Sally Grossman.
Among the stars who have appeared on this theaters stage are Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward The Pretenders, Jimmy Cliff and Warren Zevon. The Bearsville Theater property also includes two restaurants and the offices of WDST and Radio Woodstock. Both the radio stations are housed in Utopia which is Todd Rundgren’s former video studio!
The theater is a Proscenium style stage which is 23.5 feet deep and 50 feet wide. The address of the venue tonight is 291 Tinker Street (Route 212), Woodstock, NY 12498 and the gig starts at 8pm with the doors opening at 7pm. There are currently General Admission tickets available on the door at $40 (the $50 balcony seats have all sold out).
The opening act is Sean Schenker and Jason Sarubbi of The Trapps so Kasim, Todd, Jesse Gress and Prairie Prince are expected to take the stage at about 9pm - 9.15pm.
Kasim last played at this venue on Tuesday 23rd December 2008 as part of Todd Rundgren's Arena Tour. Prior to that Kasim Sulton played a solo gig here on Saturday 17th May 2008.

01.30 - It won't be a surprise to anyone but Kasim Sulton is now confirmed to be playing the gigs in September with Todd Rundgren which are playing the music of his Todd and Healing albums.
At Kasim's recent solo gigs he was very careful to state that he had not been confirmed for Todd's gigs (and then usually mentioned that he would be playing one of his own solo gigs on the lunchtime of one of Todd's gigs!).
Kasim has also now been confirmed for Todd's gigs in the US in mid-July and his gigs in Japan in October. It was also announced yesterday that Todd would be playing two gigs in New Zealand in late September which it appears that Kasim will also be playing. All of these gigs are based on a Robert Johnson set.

Kasim Sulton May 2010 Solo Tour round-up
06.00 - This is the later-than-promised round-up of Kasim Sulton's recent solo tour.
From Saturday 15th May until Tuesday 25th May (plus travel days either side) Kasim Sulton played seven solo gigs in seven cities in seven states.
He played in Chicago, IL on Saturday 15th and Fort Atkinson, WI the next evening. Two days later he played Kansas City, MO followed by a semi-private House Party in Indianapolis, IN the following evening. Three days later (Saturday 22nd) he played in Grand Rapids, MI and then Cleveland, OH the night after that and then his final gig was two days later in Somerville, MA (near Boston).
Kasim also fitted in during the tour two radio interviews (one on the telephone and one in the studio) and a studio television appearance.
Kasim drove himself around these gigs and wrote that he had "driven nearly four thousand miles." (The KasimInfo.com Tour Map came in at 3,404 miles but that is strictly venue to venue only.)
Including a snippet of a new, unnamed song, Kasim's set list consisted in total of 21 songs. Of those, he sang nine songs at each gig (Drivin' Me Mad, Yellow Cab, The God Of Low, Sacrifice, Set Me Free, Keep It In Mind (That I Love You So), Libertine, Love Alone and One World.
The following 6 songs were sung at six of the gigs: I Just Wanna Touch You (not Boston), Afraid Himself To Be (not Indianapolois or Grand Rapids), There Goes My Inspiration (not Cleveland), Cliché (not Chicago), Watching The World Go By (not Fort Atkinson) and The One Sure Thing (not Indianapolis).
Somebody Loves You was sung at five of the venues (not Fort Atkinson or Kansas City).
Over For Now and Drive was played at four of the venues - Chicago, Fort Atkinson, Kansas City and Boston, and then Chicago, Fort Atkinson, Indianapolis and Grand Rapids respectively.
Finally, the new (unnamed) song was played at Boston while Cleveland had Across The Universe and Don't Hold Me Back which were not played at any of the other gigs.
Kasim played 17 songs in Chicago, Grand Rapids, Cleveland and Boston, 16 songs in Fort Atkinson and Kansas City and 15 in Indianapolis.
Time-wise the longest gig was Chicago at 1 hour 33 minutes and Indianapolis was the shortest at 1 hour 17 minutes. In order from longest to shortest the gigs were Chicago, Boston, Grand Rapids, Fort Atkinson, Cleveland, Kansas City and Indianapolis.
Kasim described this tour on his online Blog as:
"Once again, the fans were great. I have the best team of supporters any artist could ever ask for.
I had more fun on this mini tour than I have in the past mainly because I was relaxed and un-rushed.
I played some old songs and last night in Boston did something I've never done. I played a little snippet of a new song I've been working on. One that along with ten or eleven others will make up the new CD I've been talking about.
The one in which ALL my true and faithful fans will have a chance to be a part of.
I'll be making an announcement in the coming weeks laying out the specific details on how exactly I'm planning to do it so please stay tuned.
Meantime, a huge thank you to all who attended one or more of the shows and I can't wait to get back out and do it all over again."
The set lists, reviews and photos of the tour are posted on The Kasim Sulton 2010 Solo Gigs section of KasimInfo.com. Many thanks to everyone who has submitted reviews and photos.
There are still loads more to be added over the next few days so please keep checking back.
