Kasim Sulton is playing a solo gig tonight in Fort Atkinson, WI
|
Kasim Sulton in Fort Atkinson, WI tonight
07.45 - Tonight Kasim Sulton plays the second gig on his May 2010 Kasim Sulton Solo Tour. The gig tonight is at Café Carpe in Fort Atkinson, WI.
Kasim Sulton previously played this venue on Tuesday 12th February 2002 during his Have Guitar Will Travel Tour.
Café Carpe is a restaurant, bar, and music club in downtown, right on the river. The address is 18 S. Water Street, Fort Atkinson, WI 53538. The venue has a "talk-free, smoke-free listening room separate from its main bar-dining area." their website continues "The room, which has great acoustics, seats 60 people comfortably but can hold 70 people who are enthralled enough by a performance that they only almost forget they are sweaty, their butts hurt, and they can't move without a serious invasion of someone else's personal space."
The gig tonight starts at 5pm but the restaurant is open earlier if you wish to eat before the gig. Tickets are $15 but they recommend that you reserve your place beforehand by emailing cafecarpe@sbcglobal.net.

Kasim Sulton is playing a solo gig tonight in Chicago
|
Kasim Sulton at The Abbey Pub, Chicago, IL tonight
00.02 - Tonight Kasim Sulton plays his first gig of a new solo tour! The gig tonight is at The Abbey Pub in Chicago, IL.
Kasim has played at The Abbey Pub several times over the past 9 years (since he re-started his solo career). His last performance here was on
Friday 16th October 2009. Prior to that gig he played here on Thursday 12th March 2009,
Friday 21st March 2008,
Saturday 27th January 2007,
Saturday 16th February 2002 and
Friday 10th August 2001. Kasim usually gets his largest crowds in this city - last time there was a long queue outside so it's advisable to eat beforehand in the restaurant as those people are allowed into the venue first.
This is also one of the best venues that Kasim plays as it's a relaxed bar so you can sit where you like but there are tables where people can eat snacks too either just before or during the gig. After the show Kasim always makes an appearance either in the room itself or in the bar area opposite the room (but still within the same building) so remember to stay around to talk to him and get photos!
The concert starts at 7.00pm with doors opening at 6.30pm. The opening act is Mick from Gidget's Ga Ga.
Tickets are $25 on the door or $25 in advance (recommended) at this link. The venue is located at 3420 W Grace Street, Chicago, IL 60618-4215 (telephone 773-478-4408).
Click here for more info about this gig. This is a 21 and over only gig.

Kasim Sulton Tour Map - Staten Island to Chicago, IL
14.00 - Tomorrow Kasim Sulton starts another solo tour! This tour consists of 7 gigs in 11 days in 7 states so will involving some long distances between the venues.

The first gig is on Saturday in Chicago, IL.
Staten Island, NY to Chicago, IL is a long 808 miles journey in a westerly direction (mainly on the I-80. This journey by car would take about 13 hours by road with no stops.

Another new Kasim Sulton solo gig!
06.45 - Kasim Sulton will be playing the first gig in the 2010 Folkommotion series of concerts in Kansas City, MO!
Kasim's gig is on Tuesday 18th May at the Westport Flea Market Bar & Grill.
The gig starts at 8pm (doors at 7pm) and tickets are just $15 (cash) on the door. The address is 817 Westport Road, Kansas City, MO 64111 and this is an All Ages gig. See here for more info.
Folkommotion is described on its website as follows:
"From Diana Parker, Founder
In 2003, I had a cerebral aneurysm and subsequent brain surgery. My doctors told my family that I probably wouldn't survive the operation. I managed to survive the surgery and endured rehabilitation wherein I learned to walk and talk again. During my convalescence, I had a major epiphany: life's too short not to do what you love. Folkommotion was born then.
Folkommotion is a concert series designed to encourage acoustic music, both local and "national" artists have appeared. Many talented songwriters and musicians fly in "under the radar" and lots of music lovers don't know them, let alone get a chance to see them perform. We're working to correct that.
Folkommotion is a labor of love. Everyone you see working at a concert is a volunteer, and all net proceeds of the concerts go to the performers. The performers keep all merchandise sales as well - we don't take a cut from anything. Folkommotion is able to function through donations and the sales of Folkommotion merchandise. We'll never be a big, slick operation, but we'll always be there."
