Kasim Sulton at The Abbey Pub, Chicago, IL tonight
11.00 - Tonight Kasim Sulton plays a solo gig at The Abbey Pub in Chicago, IL.
Kasim has played at The Abbey Pub several times over the past 8 years (since he re-started his solo career). His last performance here was on
Thursday 12th March and prior to that on Friday 21st March 2008 and prior to that on Saturday 27th January 2007. Kasim usually gets his largest crowds in this city but this will be his first appearance here with a full band.
This is also one of the best venues that Kasim plays as it's a relaxed bar so you can sit where you like but there are tables where people can eat too. Usually if you eat there before the show you are allowed into the venue first.
After the show Kasim always makes an appearance either in the room itself or in the bar area opposite the room (still within the same building) so remember to stay around to talk to him and get photos!
The concert starts at 7.00pm with doors opening at 6.30pm. Tickets are $25 on the door or $20 online in advance (recommended) at this link. The venue is located at 3420 W Grace Street, Chicago, IL 60618-4215 (telephone 773-478-4408).
An audio recording of this gig will be available to purchase afterwards (whether you attend the gig in person or not) from AfterShowMusic.com at this link. There are options to purchase one file of the entire gig or individual files of each song for $10 per option or it costs $15 to purchase both.

They played for about an hour and three quarters to a packed room (with people having to stand at the back) at Micho's in Reiseterstown, MD. Their rehearsals obviously paid off as they sounded well knit together and an outsider would not have known that this was their first gig.

The set list was:
Somebody Loves You
Are You Happy Now
Yellow Cab
Set Me Free
Sacrifice
Summer's Gone
The One Sure Thing
Watching The World Go By
The God Of Low
Over For Now
The Up
Mimi Gets Mad
Sometimes Love Is A Dangerous Thing
Cliché
Do You Love Me
The Kasim Sulton Band consisted of Kasim Sulton on guitar and vocals, Mark Alexander on keyboards and vocals, Mike Chiavaro on bass and Tad McCully on drums.
Reviews and photos will be added later.

|
Kasim Sulton on Rundgren Radio
21.30 - Tonight Kasim Sulton rang into RundgrenRadio and chatted for about 40 minutes to the hosts Michele Rundgren and Pippi.
Click here to listen to the whole interview but the main items that Kasim mentioned were:
Kasim and his band have just spent the past 6 days rehearsing and Kasim described it as very hard work.
At his upcoming gigs Kasim will be playing "pretty much all originals but with 1 or 2 possibly from other artists." He also said that there would be none from his Price Sulton album. Most of the songs that they will be playing are tracks that he's played before at his solo gigs but this time with a band but there will be at least one song that has never been played live before.
Kasim plans on playing more solo gigs after this run. He also mentioned playing in either Philadelphia or Atlantic City on 20th November.
Kasim and his band are rehearsing at the same location that U2 rehearsed at earlier this week.
Kasim is playing guitar and not bass in the band because "there's something about being the front guy and playing bass that doesn't feel right."
Kasim's gig in Chicago will be recorded and will be available to download soon afterwards.

Kasim to be on New York City radio station
07.00 - Kasim Sulton will be on The Joey Reynolds Show on the WOR radio station in New York City from 2am on Wednesday (7th) morning (late Tuesday night).
The station broadcasts on 710kHz plus it streams on the Internet at this link (you have to download a program first).
According to the website "Joey Reynolds considers his show the "Seinfeld of Radio" - it's about nothing and it's a hit! Actually, it's more like a party every night-- with good friends like Les Paul and Michael Imperioli, you never know just who will stop by!" Fans can e-mail the show at this link.
WOR is a news talk radio station and has been broadcasting since February 1922. It is the only New York City AM station to have retained its original three-letter call sign, which are the oldest continually used ones in the New York City area. However its call letters have no meaning, being sequentially assigned. Its slogan is "Real Life. Real People. Real Talk Radio."
Kasim was last on this show on 16th October 2002 and is expected to play at least one song live in the studio again.

Second AWATS Chicago gig - set list and comments
03.30 - The set list and comments about the AWATS gig that Kasim Sulton played on Sunday night in Chicago, IL has been added to the Todd Rundgren 2009 Gigs section of KasimInfo.com or click here for the direct link.
One of the best comments posted was "Kasim does a EXCELLENT job on "Does Anybody Love You?" His voice was very strong both nights. Todd was making fun of Kasim because he didn't take the microphone off from the stand. Then during "The Medley" (another big favorite) Todd went over by Kasim and had his head leaning on Kasim. It was pretty funny!!!"

Kasim Sulton in Minneapolis, MN tonight
03.15 - Tonight Kasim Sulton plays the seventh and final gig of this mini Todd Rundgren AWATS Tour. The concert tonight is at the State Theatre in Minneapolis, MN and starts at 7.30pm.The address of the venue is 805 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55402.
Click here to view the venue website and here to purchase tickets which are $55.10 and $43.85 after all charges. A few days ago the best seats available were in the fifteenth row. The State Theatre seats 1300 on the main floor with an additional 850 seats in the balcony / loge area.
The State Theatre opened in 1921 after costing about one million dollars to build. According to the website: "At the time, it was considered the most technologically advanced and elaborate theatre in the US. The original floor was glass, which allowed direct lighting from underneath. The opening night program included a silent film, newsreel and travelogue." Until 1958 the theater was mainly used as a movie house but was purchased in 1978 by the Jesus People Church for use as their place of worship. "During this time all the murals and sculpted figures were covered by drapes and plaster shields." In 1989 the city of Minneapolis purchased the LaSalle block (which include the State Theatre) for $11 million and in November 1991, after three years of restoration, the State Theatre reopened after the restoration cost $8.8 million.
This is the first time that Kasim Sulton has played at the State Theatre in recent years although he did play at the nearby Pantages Theater on 22nd January 2008 (again with Todd Rundgren).
