Kasim Sulton gig in Nashville on 5/16
12.30 - On Saturday 16th May Kasim Sulton will be playing a solo gig as part of a singer / songwriting circle at The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, TN.
The gig starts at 9.30pm (there is an earlier set by different musicians at 6.30pm) and appearing on the bill with Kasim will be Tommy Hambridge (who co-wrote Sometimes Love Is A Dangerous Thing with Kasim), George Teren and Bill Lloyd.
Tickets (from this link for this gig are $12 plus a $7 Food and Beverage Minimum.
The venue only has 21 tables available for reservation and for the early shows there are twenty-five spaces at the bar and on the benches that are on a first-come-first-served basis.
Click here to view the venue website. The address of the venue is 4104 Hillsboro Pike, Nashville, Tennessee, 37215.
Kasim described the venue and gig during his recent radio interview on The Core 90.3FM as "It's a pretty cool place. Everybody always goes there to show-case their songs. It's a big singer / songwriter club and it's pretty popular. A lot of people know about it and a lot of famous people have played there and everybody gets up on the stage and jam there. I was asked by a buddy of mine, Tommy Hambtridge who I've written a couple of songs with. He does a singer / songwriter circle there once every few months and he had an opening and asked if I wanted to do it. I happened to be in town and said that I would be honored to come in and play. Everybody takes a turn to sing a song, how they wrote it, what it means to them and then it goes to the next person."

New Todd Rundgren Gigs
05.30 - Some new Todd Rundgren gigs have been posted online in the past 24 hours. It appears that he will be playing a summer tour during June and July plus at least one date in September.
The summer tour will be another leg of the Arena tour. Currently the band has not been announced band but it seems likely that it will consist of the existing members. However a couple of months ago it was announced that Meat Loaf is expected to start recording his new album in June so it's currently unclear how this will affect Kasim's involvement with touring with Todd.
The summer dates found online so far are:
Tuesday 16th June - Triple Door, Seattle, WA
Thursday 18th June - Slim’s, San Francisco, CA (Tickets on sale on Sunday)
Friday 19th June - Club Nokia, Los Angeles, CA (Tickets on sale on Saturday)
More dates will be added to the tour later.
On Sunday 6th September at the Akron Civic Theater in Akron, Ohio at the popular request of fans, Todd Rundgren (and band) will be playing the whole of his A Wizard, A True Star album. Tickets for this gig go on sale on Monday and vary in price from $50 to $200 although apparently all the $200 tickets have already been allocated. It has not currently been announced which musicians will be in Todd Rundgren's band for this gig. Initially this was planned to be a one-off special gig but additional shows may be added.
More info about all these gigs can be found on TRConnection.com

The website lists the gig as "In The Round" and the other acts on the same bill are Tom Hambridge (who co-wrote Sometimes Love Is A Dangerous Thing with Kasim), George Teren and Bill Lloyd which indicates that this may be a set where they all take it in turns to sing a song.

Many thanks to Kristy Mullen for this info. More details about these appearances will be added later.

Kasim Sulton in Chicago, IL tonight
13.45 - Tonight Kasim Sulton plays the 20th and final concert of of The Todd Rundgren 2009 Arena Tour. The concert tonight is at Park West in Chicago, IL.
The concert tonight starts at 8.00pm and doors open at 6.30pm. Tickets are $52.50 General Admission. Click here to view the venue website and here to purchase tickets.
The website describes the venue as "The 11,000 square-foot facility with 5 tiered levels, large balconies, 7 bars, and comfortable booths is both beautiful and practical in design". It was built in the 1920s and opened in 1925 as the Park Lane Vaudeville Theater. Kasim Sulton at the Palace Theatre in Cleveland, OH tonight
05.30 - Tonight Kasim Sulton plays the 19th gig of The Todd Rundgren 2009 Arena Tour. The gig tonight is at the Palace Theatre in Cleveland, Ohio. The address of the venue is 1501 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44115 and the gig tonight starts at 7.30pm.
Tickets for this gig can be purchased from this link and vary in price from $40 to $10 (plus charges). Earlier this morning two seats together were available in the fifth row.
This venue is part of Playhouse Square which is the theater area of Cleveland. Between February 1921 and November 1922, five opulent theaters (the Allen, Ohio, State, Hanna and Palace) opened along Euclid Avenue between E. 14th and E. 17th streets. The theaters presented silent movies, theater and vaudeville. Unfortunately with the increase in the popularity of television four out of the five of these theaters closed between May 1968 and July 1969, the exception being The Hanna. However in 1970 a group known as the PlayhouseSquare Association (a nonprofit organization) was formed to make the area the center of theater culture in the Cleveland area.
Playhouse Square is also known for its dedicated team of over 2,000 volunteers (known as "Red Coats" due to the red jackets they wear as part of their uniform). They provide various services for visitors including ushers, ticket takers and more. Many are retired seniors with a passion for the arts.
Of course Utopia was known as The Beatles of Ohio so Kasim Sulton has played in Cleveland numerous times in his 30+ year career. The last time was on Sunday 15th March 2009 when he played a solo gig out at the Beachland Ballroom and the last time he played in the center of the city was on Wednesday 16th January 2008 when he played as part of Todd Rundgren's band at the Allen Theatre which is also part of Playhouse Square.

Tickets for the gig are all $30 (plus charges) and are available from this link.
The venue website describes the venue as "The elevated 28 foot concert-style stage accommodates every variety of live entertainment in an intimate setting, sure to provide all our patrons with a superb experience. The expansive venue, which seats approximately 500 for dinner and an evening of entertainment, features a flexible interior design which enables rapid layout changes to accommodate a variety of events, from an intimate acoustic performance to a standing-room-only concert for 1,000 fans. Patrons can enjoy sitting at the luxurious, 52-foot long bar, reserve a table for groups of varying sizes, or enjoy the privacy of cozy VIP booths. The venue design ensures that every seat offers a great site line, and every guest can experience the ambiance of the unique setting and world-class entertainment. Larger-than-life digital projection screens provide patrons with powerful visual impact as they enjoy watching their favorite entertainer or team".

Kasim Sulton's week
04.45 - This is the final week of The Todd Rundgren 2009 Arena Tour so Kasim is playing gigs 17 to 20 on the tour.
On Saturday evening they played in Vineland, NJ and tonight they take the stage in Northampton, MA, moving onto Foxboro, MA tomorrow evening. Wednesday is a travel day and then they play in Cleveland, OH on Thursday and wind up the tour in Chicago, IL on Friday before returning home to the East Coast.
Vineland, NJ to Northampton, MA is just over 5 hours (287 miles) by road but onto Foxboro, MA is only about 2 hours (106 miles). However Foxboro, MA to Cleveland, Ohio is a long drag (over 10 hours - 638 miles) so hopefully they'll fly that leg. Cleveland, Ohio to Chicago, IL is a journey that Kasim now knows very well by road! It's 344 miles (5.5 hours) but Kasim mentioned on stage back in March that he will be flying home from Chicago thankfully.
Currently Kasim doesn't have another tour booked so hopefully it means that he'll now have a chance to concentrate on his own music.
