Tonight Kasim Sulton plays the 1st concert of the European leg of the Meat Loaf Bat Out Of Hell III Tour at the Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester, England.

Kasim Sulton at the MEN Arena, Manchester, England
07.00 - Tonight Kasim Sulton plays the first concert of the European leg of the Meat Loaf Bat Out Of Hell III Tour. The concert tonight is at the Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester, England. Manchester is located in the north west of England. The metropolitan borough of Manchester has a population of 441,200. The Greater Manchester Urban Area has a population of 2,240,230 making Manchester and its surrounding area the United Kingdom's third largest conurbation.
The Manchester Evening News Arena is located in the City Centre and is on the corner of Trinity Way, Hunts Bank and Great Ducie Street. It is adjacent to Victoria Railway Station. The M.E.N. Arena (formerly the Nynex Arena) opened in 1995 and is England's largest indoor venue being capable of accommodating up to 21,000 people. When the arena last changed hands the deal was worth ฃ62m ($124m). The first stars to perform there were ice dancing duet Torvill and Dean and since then it has gone on to host sell-out performances by Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams, Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Westlife, Take That, Russell Watson and other acts. In 2002 Kylie Minogue broke box office records when her Fever Tour played there for six nights and more than 84,000 fans paid ฃ2m ($4m) to see the concerts. In 2003 it won the accolade of Busiest Venue in the World after 800,000 concert goers passed through its doors.
As well as playing host to some of the biggest music stars in the business, the venue has also featured World Championship boxing, ice hockey, the Manchester Tattoo (a military display) and a number of extreme sports events. Kasim Sulton has played there (with Meat Loaf) in 1996, 1999, 2003 and 2004 (in 2003 and 2004 he played opening sets at this venue).
The concert tonight starts at 7.30pm and the opening act is Marion Raven (who dueted with Meat Loaf on his 2006 single It's All Coming Back To Me Now). Doors open at 6.00pm and the show is expected to finish at 10.50pm. It appears that there are some seats available (directly from the Box Office) in the rear tiers of the venue for the concert tonight.

Meat Loaf Bat Out Of Hell III Tour Mileage
01.15 - Tonight Kasim Sulton plays the first concert of the European leg of the Meat Loaf Bat Out Of Hell III Tour. The concert tonight is at the Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester, England. Manchester is located in the north west of England.
Kasim appeared on a UK TV show called Any Dream Will Do on Saturday night (with Meat Loaf). This show is filmed in London, England so this leg of the tour mileage calculations starts there.
London to Manchester is 200 miles (north west) and will have taken about 4 hours by road.
The UK leg of this tour is quite an easy one (especially compared to the recent US concerts) as basically they are only playing concerts every other day with travel on only every fourth day. (Remember UK is only about a quarter of the size of Texas too!)
European Meat Loaf Bat Out Of Hell III Tour Mileage by road to date (estimated) - 200 miles.

Meat Loaf Bat Out Of Hell III Tour Mileage
17.15 - Slightly later than this should have been posted, but these are the final two trips of the US leg of the Bat Out Of Hell III Tour.
The last tour map had the band in Orlando, Florida (fans posted that at least some of the band were spotted there) around 7th April. The next actual concert was on Monday 16th April in Washington, DC, followed by a private concert in New York City on Wednesday 18th April.
Orlando to Washington is 851 miles which would have taken about 13 hours by road and Washington, DC to New York City is 225 miles (a 4 hour drive).
Total US Meat Loaf Bat Out Of Hell III Tour Mileage by road to date (estimated) - 12,397 miles.

Kasim Sulton on Any Dream Will Do
06.15 - Apparently Kasim Sulton (with Meat Loaf) appeared in the second (results) section of Any Dream Will Do on UK television last night. (Apologies for anyone who sat through the hour longer part of the show earlier in the evening but it's not a programme I ever watch!) This meant that they were on from 4.45pm to 5.15pm (9.45pm to 10.15pm UK time).
Please see the article from yesterday below for more info about this programme.
They lip-synched to Meat Loaf's new single Cry Over Me (which will be released on Monday in UK). Two of the band (Paul Crook who plays lead guitar and Dave Luther who plays sax) were missing from the performance.
Dave Akerman has posted the performance here.
The overnight ratings for last night for UK television have been announced as follows:
1 .. 6.7m (37.1%) .. Doctor Who (19:00)
2 .. 6.3m (29.4%) .. Casualty (20:45)
3 .. 5.5m (28.2%) .. Any Dream Will Do (19:45)
4 .. 5.3m (24.6%) .. The National Lottery Draws (21:30)
5 .. 5.0m (23.2%) .. Any Dream Will Do (21:45)
These ratings will change slightly when they take into account people who recorded the programmes to watch later but they are still a good indication of how many people will have seen Kasim on television last night. The percentages are the percentage of the public who were viewing television at that particular time.
Unfortunately though the show came 12th in the percentage share chart:
1 .. 6.7 (37.1%) .. Doctor Who (19:00)
2 .. 1.2 (32.1%) .. Breakfast (06:00)
3 .. 6.3 (29.4%) .. Casualty (20:45)
4 .. 5.5 (28.2%) .. Any Dream Will Do (19:45)
5 .. 3.4 (26.5%) .. You've Been Framed! (17:30)
6 .. 1.5 (24.9%) .. BBC News; Weather (12:00)
7 .. 5.3 (24.6%) .. The National Lottery Draws(21:30)
8 .. 2.6 (24.1%) .. BBC News; Regional News; Weather (17:00)
9 .. 1.3 (23.5%) .. Saturday Kitchen (10:00)
10 . 4.0 (23.3%) .. Vernon Kay's Gameshow Marathon (18:30)
11 .. 4.9 (23.2%) .. BBC News; Weather (22:15)
12 .. 5.0 (23.2%) .. Any Dream Will Do (21:45)
The more detailed ratings for the duration of the part of the show when Kasim appeared are:
21:45 .. 4.8m (22.4%)
22:00 .. 5.2m (24.0%)
22:15 .. 4.9m (23.2%)
In addition, last night the programme which usually gets the largest audience share of all the satellite / cable channels called Doctor Who Confidential (about the making of the programme Doctor Who) played extracts from two Meat Loaf songs (when Kasim's voice could clearly be heard!). They were In The Land Of Pigs (The Butcher Is King) and The Monster Is Loose. The viewing audience for that programme is usually over 1.2 million.

Tonight Kasim Sulton will appear on Any Dream Will Do on UK television with Meat Loaf
|
Meat Loaf on Any Dream Will Do
12.30 - Today Meat Loaf will be appearing on BBC1 (a UK national television programme) in TV show called Any Dream Will Do. It airs from 2.45pm to 3.45pm (7.45pm to 8.45pm UK time), plus there is a "results" show from 4.45pm to 5.15pm (9.45pm to 10.15pm UK time) but Meat Loaf is unlikely to be in that section. Yesterday Meat Loaf apparently said that he will be performing with the [show] orchestra and [his] band so it is expected that Kasim Sulton will be shown. Meat Loaf is apparently also listed as a "guest coach" so may be featured considerably in the programme.
Reality TV shows of various types are very popular currently on UK TV. Last year there was a very popular show called How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria where they searched for the (female) lead role in the musical The Sound Of Music for a stage show at the theater called The London Palladium. The winner (Connie Fisher) now plays most of the performances of the show each week and the show is breaking all sorts of box office records.
Any Dream Will Do is looking for the (male) lead role in the forthcoming musical Joseph and The Amazing Technicolorฎ Dreamcoat at The Adelphi Theatre in London. The current musical at the theater (Evita) closes on 26th May and the show will start soon after that. Thousands of guys auditioned for the role but twelve were chosen to appear each week on television (until they are voted out). Currently there are eight contestants left.
Meat Loaf is expected to perform his new single (to be released on Monday 7th May) called Cry Over Me, although it is expected to be lip-synched. This is advertised as a live show but when Meat Loaf (and Kasim) appeared on the "live" show Strictly Come Dancing last year, the music part was recorded earlier that day.
For the purpose of promoting a new single, this is one of the biggest TV shows currently on UK television due to it being shown on prime-time Saturday night. At the end of March, the Spring TV schedules were launched with basically the same TV shows each week but sometimes in different time slots. Each week Any Dream Will Do has had one of the top five largest audiences (the figures tend to vary due to the time slots and the fact the weather has been unseasonably warm). I don't have last weeks audience figures but in two of the four previous weeks, even the results show has also appeared in the top five!
The population of UK is about 60 million and these figures show the top five for the past few weeks. There are five main national TV stations in UK but the station which Any Dream Will Do airs on (BBC1) has had all five top slots each week! The percentage indicates the percentage of the audience that are watching televison at that time:

Doctor Who is the world's longest running sci-fi drama having started in 1963 (although it "rested" for 16 years up until 2005). It now stars David Tennant and recently surpassed Star Trek's 727 episodes record making it the sci-fi drama with the most episodes worldwide too.
Casualty is a drama set in a hospital which has produced a number of spin-off serials. The drama originally started in 1986.
This all means that about 6 million people should be able to see Kasim Sulton performing with Meat Loaf on national UK television today !!!

Kasim's online journal updated
17.15 - Kasim Sulton has updated his online journal here. Kasim says that he was in Los Angeles from 24th April to 2nd May and now he is in UK ready for the Meat Loaf European Tour which starts next Thursday.
There's also a photo of Kasim in the LA studio here.

Update regarding Meat Loaf's appearances today
17.00 - Apparently there was no performance of Cry Over Me on the UK national TV programme This Morning as instead it was just an interview.
However during the Radio Two interview later today Meat Loaf is reported as saying that for the TV show called Any Dream Will Do that he'll be performing on tomorrow, he will be playing with his band.
(Check back tomorrow for a detailed blurb about this TV show.)

Meat Loaf appearances today
01.15 - Meat Loaf is making two "appearances" today in London, England. There's been no mention about whether or not Kasim Sulton (and the rest of his band) will be with him.
Meat Loaf will be This Morning on the UK national TV station ITV sometime between 5.30am and 7.30am (10.30am and 12.30pm UK time). Apparently Meat Loaf will be singing his forthcoming single Cry Over Me in the studio. However when he sang that song earlier this week on Dancing With The Stars, Kasim was not with him.
Meat Loaf will also be on The Steve Wright Radio Show on BBC Radio 2 (a UK national radio station) some time betweeen 9.00am and noon (2.00pm and 5.00pm UK time). It has been advertised as only an interview so appears unlikley that Kasim will be involved. The show can be listened live here and is available to listen anytime for the next week at the same link.

New New Cars gigs
01.00 - The New Cars official website are listing new gigs for the band this summer in Washington, California, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Illinois in June and August.
Unfortunately it seems highly unlikely that Kasim Sulton will be unable to play any of these new gigs as he'll be in Europe in June and on tour in US with Meat Loaf in August.

Concert for Diana
00.45 - 10,000 more tickets for the Concert For Diana on Sunday 1st July go on sale today at 4.00am. These are expected to be "Production Tickets" which may have a limited view. Tickets are ฃ45 (about $90) plus charges. All proceeds of this concert goes to three different charities. However they do say that "Concert for Diana is designed principally not as a fund-raising event but as a celebration of the life of Diana, Princess of Wales. All net proceeds from the Concert, however, will go to three charities chosen by Prince William and Prince Harry.". Click here to purchase the tickets online. When the original batch of 80,000 tickets went on sale they sold out within a matter of hours last year (before any of the acts were announced).
It isn't known yet whether or not Kasim Sulton will be playing at this concert but it seems likely that Meat Loaf will have his band on stage with him. All artists are expected to play somewhere between one and three songs. It's actually not yet been officially announced that Meat Loaf will be performing at the concert as he is not amongst the artists listed on the official concert website. However several online and off-line articles have listed him as appearing (which makes sense of their return to UK at the end of June to play the concert in Bristol after a month of playing concerts on mainland Europe). Confirmed artists performing at the concert so far include Elton John, Duran Duran, The English National Ballet, Bryan Ferry, James Morrison, Rod Stewart, Lily Allen, Natasha Bedingfield and Status Quo.
The concert will be one of the first concerts held at the newly opened Wembley Stadium (not to be confused with Wembley Arena where Kasim will be playing with Meat Loaf next month). The first concert there will be Robin Williams on 9th June. The concert will be televised live on UK television as well as syndicated worldwide in over 140 countries, plus it will be streamed online.

Kasim's journal updated
05.00 - Kasim Sulton has updated his online journal here. Kasim says that he and the rest of the Meat Loaf band have been in a studio "cleaning up some errant notes" from the recorded show for release of a DVD later in the year. Kasim then says that he's going to Los Angeles next week for more work on the Meat Loaf DVD. Kasim also says that he still hopes to play as many of The New Cars gigs that he can in July. There's also a photo of Kasim here.
Yesterday Kasim sent a message to his mailing list (which can be read here) about buying his new album All Sides.

5/11 - The Coushatta Casino Resort, Kinder, LA (Kasim will be in UK)
5/12 - Cypress Gardens Adventure Playground, White Haven, FL (Kasim will be in UK)

8/18 - Fort McCoy Army Base, Sparta, WI (Kasim will be on tour with Meat Loaf)
Of more concern to most of Kasim's fans, it greatly reduces the time that Kasim will have to play any solo gigs of his own over the next few months.

New Kasim video
02.30 - A few days ago Kasim Sulton put another (shorter) video on YouTube.com here. It was recorded in one of his hotel bedrooms in Florida during the Meat Loaf tour and Kasim talks about receiving his own copy of All Sides.
On Monday Kasim posted another video on YouTube.com here from before the Meat Loaf concert in Washington, DC. Most of it is just him chatting to people backstage but it is interesting to notice that even though it wasn't long until the start of the concert, there was still some doubt about whether or not it would actually go ahead.
