Today Kasim Sulton plays a gig at The Van Dyck in Schenectady, NY on his 2007 Solo Tour !!!

Kasim's gig at The Van Dyck
01.00 - Tonite Kasim plays his first gig of 2007 and his first gig of the Winter leg of The Kasim Sulton 2007 Tour! The gig (or gigs!) tonight are at the Van Dyck in Schenectady, NY.
This is a venue where Kasim has played a several times before, the last being on 2nd September 2006. Tickets for tonight are $25 for one show or $39 for both. Tickets are available at the door.
The Van Dyck has quite a historical pedigree. It is located in Schenectady's Stockade, which was the first historic district in New York State. The Van Dyck is actually two buildings. The one on the left, 235 Union Street was built in 1890. The smaller structure on the right, 237 Union Street was built in 1820. The Van Dyck first opened its doors in 1947 and was originally a piano bar. The club was refurbished in 1997 and included combining four second-floor rooms into one which made a venue capable of seating 125 people. The room contains a Yamaha concert grand piano which had been owned by the Metropolitan Opera House. Downstairs there is a restaurant with a very varied menu too. The big news is that The Van Dyck is now on Downbeat's magazine list of the 100 Great Jazz Clubs!
Kasim will be joined on stage tonight by Doug Kennedy and the shows start at 7.00pm and 9.00pm. The address of The Van Dyck is 237 Union Street, Schenectady, NY, 12305 and the telephone number is 518 381 1111. This link has more info about the gig.

Kasim interview regarding the future of The New Cars
01.15 - Click here to read a mini interview with Kasim Sulton on TheRockRadio.com regarding the future of The New Cars.
One quote from Kasim is "part of the plan, was to do a record with new material on it. And I think that now that we've done the two tours, and also that live record, maybe this year will see the band kind of working on a specifically new material record".
The article concludes with the comment "Sulton isn't just waiting around for The New Cars to get together. He's been Meat Loaf's Musical Director for may years, and they've got a tour starting February 23rd in Pala, California.".

Kasim's gig at The Van Dyck
19.30 - Since I posted about Kasim's gig at The Van Dyck NOT being canceled being the lead story on Metroland.net two hours ago, I've received 3 explanations about what may have occurred. As I don't fancy being landed with a libel case(!), I think I'll just leave it that Kasim's gig IS going ahead on Saturday and this link has venue and ticketing info.

Kasim's interview on AM Radio tomorrow
19.15 - Apparently Kasim Sulton's interview tomorrow on 810 WGY in the Albany, NY area is in two parts and will be broadcast between 6.00am and 7.00am and again between 8.00am and 9.00am. The interview was recorded today via telephone.

Kasim's solo gigs discussed on messageboard
11.00 - A couple of days ago there were a few posts on this messageboard regarding the prices and limited promotion of Kasim's solo gigs compared to his shows with The New Cars and Meat Loaf concerts. (At least most people thought that Kasim's solo gigs were reasonably priced!)

Songs on Kasim's forthcoming tour
09.00 - There's been a fair amount of dicussion on the KSulton Yahoo Group recently about songs which fans would like to hear on Kasim Sulton's tour next week.
Most fans who posted would like to hear lots of new Kasim music but suggestions for songs he didn't sing at the summer gigs that they would like to see added back to his set list include Set Me Free, Afraid Himself To Be, Monument and Shooting Star. Songs which Kasim hasn't sung on stage but they would like to hear include Elvis Presley's Teddy Bear (after his performance of Blue Christmas in December), England Dan and John Ford Coley's I'd Really Love To See You Tonight and Utopia's I Will Wait.
The song that most people who posted would like to see dropped from his set list is Sometimes Love Is A Dangerous Thing.

01.15 - There's a detailed blurb about Kasim Sulton in a recent e-mail from The Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland, Ohio (reproduced below) about his gig there on Friday 26th January. (If you recognise the words it's because most of them were taken straight from KasimInfo.com so unfortunately it's slightly out of date now!).
