More New Meat Loaf concerts
15.15 - Two additional extra concerts have been added in UK for the 2007 Meat Loaf Seize The Night Tour. They are:
Saturday 12th May - MEN Arena, Manchester, England
Wednesday 16th May - NEC Arena, Birmingham, England
Tickets for all 4 new concerts go on sale tomorrow at 3.00pm GMT (10.00am EST) to Fan Club members on Meat Loaf's official website MeatLoaf.net and at usual tickets agents on Monday at 9.00am GMT (4.00am EST).
If you look at the Kasim Sulton's 2007 Gigs and Appearances page (which is calendar format) it appears that these are the final dates that concerts can be booked in that run of UK (assuming that the start date for concerts there is 10th May as mentioned in interviews). Typically concerts go on sale 6 months in advance in Europe.
It's been announced that the tour will start on 1st March in Florida.

Kasim at The Palace Theater
06.00 - Tonight Kasim Sulton plays the second of six promo concerts to promote Meat Loaf's album Bat Out Of Hell 3: The Monster Is Loose which was released on Tuesday. The concert tonight is at The Palace Theater at 1564 Broadway (between 46th & 47th Streets) in New York City. This mini promo tour is being called The Bases Loaded Tour (the proper tour next year will be called The Seize The Night Tour) and this concert was advertised as Bat Out Of Hell On Broadway.
The Palace Theater has a very impressive history although (I believe) this is the first time that Kasim Sulton has played here. It's a theater that is known mainly for its vaudeville and theatrical history - this is the Palace Theater referred to in the line, "We're goin' to New York to play the Palace!" The theater was built by vaudeville entrepreneur Martin Beck and opened back in 1913. Amongst the famous names who have played here are Harry Houdini, Sarah Bernhardt, Irving Berlin, Jack Benny and George Burns! For several years the theater was only used to screen movies but live shows returned here in the 1960s and Legally Blonde (the musical) opens for a run in late April 2007.
Something else that the theater is famous (or infamous!) for is its ghosts! Over 100 ghosts are supposed to haunt the Palace Theatre, including a while gowned cellist playing in the pit, a young girl looking down from the balcony, and Judy Garland, who is sensed near the rear orchestra door built for her. The one ghost you don't want to run into at the theater is that of the acrobat who died when he broke his neck there - legend claims that those who see him will soon die!
The theater only holds about 2,000 (live people!) and originally there was talk that this concert was going to be recorded for a DVD. This idea has been shelved but it did mean that additional seats were made available and, for some reason, other people were moved back 1 or 2 rows! Last weekend seats were still available in the 7th row but now it appears that the best seats are in about row 30. Tickets cost up from $49.50 to $225 (plus charges).
The concert starts tonight at 8.00pm and is expected to follow the same format as the concert at The Royal Albert Hall.

Another New Cars gig in doubt???
16.30 - There now appears to be a question mark over one of The New Cars gigs that Kasim Sulton is expected to play. It's the one on 28th November at the Kewadin Shores Casino in Saint Ignace, MI. For some reason it has disappeared from the tour list on The New Cars' official website TheNewCars.com. It may just be an oversight as it's not listed as one of the cancelled gigs, plus tickets are still available on the venue website.
Many thanks to Jamie C for noticing this.

The New Cars Road Rage Tour
05.00 - The New Cars' official website TheNewCars.com has been updated with the news that (as expected) seven of the gigs have been canceled. They state the reason as "scheduling conflicts". The canceled dates are the first 6 plus Buffalo, NY.
The canceled concerts are:
Nov. 1st - Elmira, NY
Nov. 2nd - Reading, PA
Nov. 4th - New York, NY
Nov. 5th - Norfolk, VA
Nov. 7th - Annapolis, MD
Nov. 8th - Red Bank, NJ
Nov. 13th - Buffalo, NY
Thankfully none of the dates which Kasim Sulton was due to play have been affected.

Tuesday 31st October 2006
59 days until The Kasim Sulton Band's Holiday Show in New York City.
Today Kasim Sulton plays (with Meat Loaf) on The Megan Mullally Show at noon and a mini concert at the Jimmy Kimmel stage tonight.
|
The New Cars Road Rage Tour
17.15 - The venue websites in Annapolis, MD (11/7) and Reading, PA (11/2) are both listing the concerts as canceled with refunds available.
There has still been no official anouncement from the management of The New Cars. The New Cars Tour page has been updated with where cancelations have been listed.
Thankfully none of Kasim Sulton's 10 concerts appear to be affected at all.
|
Kasim on Jimmy Kimmel Live
08.15 - Tonight at about 7.15pm PST Kasim Sulton (with Meat Loaf) plays "a mini concert" on The Jimmy Kimmel Stage part of which will be broadcast late tonight on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show on ABC.
The stage is located at the El Capitan Entertainment Center on 6840 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, CA 90028. This is an outdoor concert but thankfully it's expected to be a clear night with a temperature of 58 degrees - a lot warmer than when they played outside in New York City last week!
|
Kasim on The Megan Mullally Show
05.15 - It's not been confirmed but it appears likley that Kasim Sulton will be "playing" alongside Meat Loaf on The Megan Mullally Show today at noon. The show is recorded at the Tribune Studios which are located at 5842 Sunset Blvd. Hollywood, CA 90028 and will be broadcast tomorrow.
Click here for the official website about the show. The show is a light-hearted variety show with musical guests and interviews. Megan Mullally originally came to fame as Karen Walker from Will & Grace before standing in for David Letterman on his show which led to her being offered this show.

The New Cars Road Rage Tour
18.30 - In the last couple of hours at least 3 fans have posted on various messageboards and mailings lists that they have been informed that just the first two weeks of the tour have been canceled and that an official announcement will be made later today. Currently TicketMaster.com still list the Reading, PA (11/2) and Jim Thorpe, PA (11/10) concerts for sale during that period. The New Cars official website TheNewCars.com now list concerts only from 11/10 onwards.
Once again, I want to stress that this is only what is being posted on the Internet and none of it has been officially confirmed or denied by The New Cars management. Only once something official has been announced will The New Cars Tour page be updated.
|
Another canceled New Cars gig
15.30 - Whether the whole New Cars Tour is canceled or not hasn't been confirmed but their concert at The NORVA in Norfolk, VA this coming Sunday (5th) is now listed by TicketMaster as canceled.
This is not one of the gigs which Kasim Sulton was listed as playing.
|
New Cars Tour canceled????
12.45 - According to Star-Gazette.com 39 minutes ago, the concert tomorrow night at The Clemens Center in Elmira, NY on Wednesday has been canceled (as expected). However the article also says that "the entire New Cars tour has been cancelled due to scheduling difficulties".
Nothing has been confirmed yet from the band's management.
Many thanks to Michele Mac for the heads-up regardng this.

Kasim Sulton's September 2006

September 2006 saw Kasim Sulton playing a mixture of different gigs (rather a foretaste of things to come!). As well as playing 4 gigs (3 venues as he played two sets on the one night in Schenectady, NY) of his solo tour, Kasim also played a make-up gig as part of The New Cars in Atlanta, GA plus a corporate gig the following evening in Columbus, Ohio. Due to Patti Russo leaving Meat Loaf's band unexpectedly during August, Kasim was involved in the auditioning of a replacement and then constant rehearsals to get the band (with two new members) ready for their first gig in Boston, MA on 30th September. (To have 26 items in a 30 day month is quite an achievement and is the highest figure since I started doing this monthly analysis!)
In contrast September 2004 was far more straightforward for Kasim as he purely played on the one tour (as most musicians do!). He played 9 concerts (mainly on the West Coast) on The Todd Rundgren Liars Tour.
September 2005 also saw Kasim only on the one tour (Meat Loaf's Hair Of The Dog Tour) but he also opened 3 of the concerts during September including a special Hurricane Katrina benefit concert. This tour had started in June in Germany and September 2005 saw the final 15 concerts of the tour.

Another cancellation on The New Cars Tour????
18.00 - It appears that the concert that The New Cars (but not Kasim Sulton) were going to play on Wednesday (1st) is also in doubt as it has been removed from The Clemens Center website (in Elmira, NY). This concert was not listed on TicketMaster.com but the ticketing link has been removed from the venue website too.
Other fans have reported that seats in the front few rows are available for the Reading concert on Thursday which seems unusual. This afternoon 6 seats together were avaiable in the fifth row. Although this may be due to some of the VIP packages not selling, it seems unusual that so many seats together are available so near the front so close to the concert.
However all these concerts are still listed on The New Cars official website TheNewCars.com (but they're not the fastest at updating the website!). On the plus side Kasim's bio has finally been reinstated on TheNewCars.com (although it reads as though he's done nothing since 2001!).

Official UK Charts
15.00 - The Meat Loaf single It's All Coming Back To Me Now (on which Kasim Sulton sings background vocals and plays bass) has dropped from #6 to #9 on the Official UK Singles Charts today.
Meanwhile the album Bat Out Of Hell III: The Monster Is Loose (which features Kasim on every track) is a new entry in the Official UK Album Charts at #3.
The album is released in US on Tuesday (31st) but there are no plans to release the single.

Concert Tickets
12.00 - Kasim Sulton
(The most important one first!)
A search on TicketWeb.com under Kasim's name shows 2 listings - The Bitter End and The Beachland Ballroom. The listing for The Bitter End has basically the press release with the description "Kasim Sulton Band Holiday Show featuring Kasim Sulton & Special Guests" and The Beachland Ballroom listing just says "Kasim Sulton with Nick Riff".
Meat Loaf
In UK tickets are no longer being sold by TicketMaster for Meat Loaf's concerts in Birmingham and London (Wembley) or standing tickets for the Glasgow concert. Fans have reported that they've been told that those concerts have sold out although TicketLine (another large UK ticket agency) still have some for sale.
This coming week Meat Loaf is playing a concert in New York and fans have reported that FanFire (the company which runs Meat Loaf's official website MeatLoaf.net) have attempted to move some people back from the first few rows which they purchased.
This article appeared online yesterday and says that Meat Loaf "was fuming" over the price that promoters are charging for his concerts. It says that he was "appalled" to discover that seats for the New York concert were being sold for up to $250. (Ironically there's a link below that article that leads to a UK ticket broker that is selling tickets for concerts at almost 3 times face value!)
In this article Meat Loaf says "I have 112 shows that are being booked for next year [in the same format]. After we did Royal Albert Hall, I really liked the concept. So I'm leaning towards that." (The format was songs from all 3 Bat Out Of Hell albums but in two acts plus the encore.)
The New Cars
After TicketMaster had the concerts in New York City and Buffalo, NY listed as canceled yesterday, there seems to be some concern about the Redbank, NJ concert on 13th November as it is no longer listed in the calendar part of the Count Basie Theater website. However it is still listed under the ticket link and tickets are still being sold. (They appear to be selling quite well too.) TicketMaster have never listed this gig.
The proposed second gig at The House Of Blues on Sunset Strip in Los Angeles on 6th December (which Kasim Sulton was supposed to have been playing) has still not gone on sale.

A Dream Goes On Forever
05.00 - An excerpt of the second installment of Billy James' book A Dream Goes On Forever - The Continuing Story Of Todd Rundgren has been posted online on GetReadyToRock.com here. This book is sub-titled The Utopia Years and the foreward is written by Kasim Sulton.
An excerpt of the excerpt posted includes the following quote by Kasim about the crew throwing a tumbleweed onto the stage during his (Wind) solo spot during Singring And The Glass Guitar on The RA Tour:
"During the gig that night I'm playing my solo and all of a sudden they roll this gigantic tumbleweed out onstage and it just sits there; it must have weighed 25 pounds and it didn't go anywhere. I'm looking at it and it's like a huge thicket, thorny bush and it got hung up on my pants; I'm trying to kick it off the stage and it's sticking to me in my leg. It was a nightmare!"
The book was originally expected to be published earlier this year but has now been delayed to early in 2007.
