Listen to Kasim's new music!
16.45 - Rob (AKA PrivateUniverse) has a radio programme on WESU 88.1 FM in the Middletown, CT area. In the early hours of Wednesday morning (13th) Rob will be playing two new tracks of Kasim Sulton music which has been kindly given to him by Kasim. The tracks are Yellow Cab and Minutes Slipping Past.
The show airs from 12.30am until 3.00am and the radio station streams on the Internet - the link is here.
Rob also interviewed Kasim before his gig in New Haven, CT a couple of weeks ago and that interview will air soon.
Please note that as these tracks will be available on a commercial release by Kasim at some point in the future, this show will not be recorded for download on KasimInfo.com.

Kasim and The New Cars
16.00 - RockLineRadio.com has an article about The New Cars playing in Atlanta tonight and their forthcoming tour which mentions Kasim. The Kasim part says "The New Cars recently announced that singer-bassist Kasim Sulton would miss the upcoming dates because of prior commitments to Meat Loaf, but Sulton will do the show tonight. The plan is for a new bassist to come in when needed, but Easton has stressed that Sulton will always have a spot in the band.".

Kasim and The New Cars in Atlanta, GA
01.30 - Tonight Kasim Sulton plays his final concert (at least at the moment) as part of The New Cars. This will also be Kasim's 24th gig as a member of the band.
This is a one-off gig which rumors have it is being played because the venue pre-pays the artists so they had to reschedule the concert before it will be too cold to play outside. Ironically this was one of the first gigs on The New Cars Road Rage Tour which was discovered on the Internet, although the original advert only showed Blondie with a silhouette of The New Cars.
The concert is being held at Chastain Park Amphitheatre which is in north west Atlanta. I don't believe that Kasim has ever played at this venue before (certainly he hasn't in the past few years). In fact he's rarely even played in Georgia (the last time being a Hurricane Katrina benefit concert with Meat Loaf in September last year).
This appears to be a venue where lots of people will arrive early for the gig and have a picnic beforehand so consequently there may be a table set-up tonight. (the website has the unusual line "No televisions are allowed in the seating areas")! There are also food stalls within the grounds. This venue also has a lot of regular patrons who attend most concerts here so often the front seats will already be booked for the whole season. Yesterday seats were available in the 17th row of the venue at $59.25 plus charges or the $400 Meet and Greet packages are available. Tickets from the original 17th June date are still valid. Parking is available on the site and costs $9.
Staten Island to Atlanta, GA is 876 miles each way so hopefully Kasim will not be driving this trip!
This is a "Come rain, come shine" concert and the weather for the soundcheck is expected to be about 81 degrees and sunny and for the show itself it's going down to a low of only 73 degrees with a cloudy night.

Kasim in Bass Player Magazine
15.45 - There's an interview with Kasim Sulton in the current edition (September 2006) of Bass Player Magazine. In the interview Kasim discusses The New Cars, his iPod, his gear and playing bass amongst other things. Right click here to download the article.
One interesting quote is "For quite a while I was using a Spector 5-string. I couldn't imagine not having that low B to rattle seats. Now I feel that if you can't do it with four strings, you have a problem".
A surprising quote in the article is "Somewhere in the midst of it all, he released a trio of solo outings, too, but his preferred role is bandmate"!
Many thanks to the kind person who forwarded this interview.

Kasim Sulton's August 2006

If you look at each August over the length of Kasim's career, his workload varies considerably. Some years he'll be on tour for the whole month (on a sheds and casinos tour for example) and others he'll spend most of it at home. This year he was in rehearsals with the musicians in Meat Loaf's band for the first two weeks of the band and then he played gigs on The Kasim Sulton 2006 Tour. The gigs he played in August were in West Nyack, NY, New Haven, CT, Providence, RI, Greenville, SC and Cleveland, OH.
In August 2005 Kasim embarked on the US leg of the Meat Loaf Hair Of The Dog Tour. The tour started with three concerts in New York City and was mainly on the East Coast for that month so it meant that Kasim could have spent a few nights at home during the tour. It also resulted in Kasim fitting in 4 performances of the musical Movin' Out on Broadway on his spare nights too!
In total contrast all that Kasim did in the public eye in 2004 was recording Bands Reunited with Patty Smyth and Scandal plus rehearsals for the show in Los Angeles. As Kasim had spent the vast majority of the first 7 months away from home on tour with first Meat Loaf and then Todd Rundgren it's hardly surprising that he didn't tour that month!

Kasim Sulton Tickets
05.00 - Meat Loaf
Tickets went on pre-sale yesterday for the promo concert on Monday 16th October at The Royal Albert Hall in London, England for fan club members. Tickets were $135 for the floor and $115 for the stalls. Apparently due to a clitch on the website, originally people were unable to buy two tickets together on the floor so lots of fans had to buy seats apart! The pre-sale ends at 10.00am EST today and currently there are still seats available in the 10th row of the block on Kasim Sulton's side of the stage.
Tickets for the same concert went on pre-sale earlier today with TicketLine for previous customers of that company and will be on general sale tomorrow.
Tickets for the promo concert(s) in New York City in early November are not yet on sale.
The New Cars
Kasim plays his final concert (at least in this run) with The New Cars tomorrow at Chastain Park Amphitheatre, Atlanta, Georgia. Tickets can be purchased at this link. Currently seats are available in the 17th row at $59.25 plus charges.
Kasim Sulton
Kasim's next gig on The Kasim Sulton 2006 Tour is a week on Saturday (16th) at The Cup, Staten Island, NY. I've been told that this is quite a small venue so advance tickets are highly recommended and can be purchased from this link. Tickets are $26.50.

Meat Loaf's concert at The Royal Albert Hall
01.00 - Tickets for the Meat Loaf concert on Monday 16th October at The Royal Albert Hall in London, England (which Kasim Sulton will be playing and is being recorded for a DVD release) go on sale today at 10.00am EST according to a news message on his official website MeatLoaf.net.
This is a fan club presale so you have to be a member of the fan club to buy the tickets (annual fan club membership is $40) and there is a limit of two tickets per person. The remaining tickets will be on general sale tomorrow via the usual agents.

Kasim in the News!
18.30 - Kasim Sulton has been making the headlines on both Billboard.com and ContactMusic.com today! Both stories are about his departure from The New Cars.
The Billboard.com article is mainly about a new Cars documentary produced by Ric Ocasek but contains the paragraph "However, bassist Kasim Sulton will not be on hand while he honors previous commitments to tour with Meat Loaf in support of the latter's upcoming Virgin album, "Bat Out of Hell III." A replacement for Sulton has been hired but has yet to be announced.".
The ContactMusic.com article is titled "Sulton Quits New Cars" and says:
"Former UTOPIA rocker KASIM SULTON has dropped out of THE CARS reunion project to reunite with MEAT LOAF on tour. The bass player joined ex-bandmate TODD RUNDGREN when The Cars hit the road as THE NEW CARS with BLONDIE earlier this year (06). That tour stalled in June (06) when the guitarist was injured in a tourbus crash. And, now the group is preparing to return to the road, Sulton will instead tour with Meat Loaf on his Bat Out Of Hell III Tour. The bass player appeared on Meat Loaf's first BAT OUT OF HELL album and has regularly toured with the rocker. A replacement for Sulton has been hired but has yet to be announced."
Kasim Sulton's final concert as part of The New Cars will be this Friday (8th) in Atlanta, GA although Kasim has said that he hopes to re-join the band at some point in the future. (However Meat Loaf is quoted as saying this week that his tour will last 18 to 24 months!)

Win a KSulton Bass
18.15 - Just a reminder that the competition to win a KSulton Bass is still running. Click here for full details but basically all you have to do is to buy advance tickets for any of Kasim's solo gigs and e-mail your confirmation number.
The page with all the details says that a draw will be made when 500 advance tickets are sold but I've been assured that a draw will be made at the end of the tour regardless of how many advance tickets are sold. (That page is also slightly ambiguous as it says a "Kasim signed signature Archer USA bass guitar" but as the link on that page is to the KSulton Bass website it seems likely that it will be a KSulton Bass that Kasim will be signing and not one of Archer Guitars other signature bases.)
If you bought advance tickets for a concert which has already been played you are still entitled to enter the contest and anyone who bought advance tickets for a show like The Saint where no reference number was issued then you can still enter.

Bassists Quiz
12.30 - There's a question (with photos) about Kasim Sulton in Paul Gilbert's quiz about bassists on his website.
It's only the second question and even if you don't know the answer to the first question, there's only three options to guess before you see the page!

The Kasim Sulton Appreciation Thread
06.30 - There's a nice thread (started by Shelle) on the messageboard attached to TRConnection.com called The Kasim Sulton Appreciation Thread where lots of fans have made some lovely comments about Kasim.

Kasim and The New Cars
17.00 - According to an article on Yahoo.com about bands touring with new lead singers, 10 of The New Cars and Blondie concerts which were reported to Boxscore are supposed to have only sold are reported to have only 43.7% of the available tickets and grossed $1.5 million.

Kasim's gigs in Schenectady
01.45 - On Saturday evening Kasim Sulton, Doug Kennedy and Dennis DelGaudio played two shows at The Van Dyck in Schenectady, NY.
The first show lasted almost exactly an hour and the second was slightly longer. Kasim said that it was difficult playing two sets without duplicating songs too much (as lots of people stayed for both shows) but in fact only played 3 songs two times (Sacrifice, Are You Happy Now and Drive - the latter song was his final one and was requested).
Kasim was in great form and was very funny on stage and his voice was strong throughout both sets. Unfortunately there were less people there than the other times he's played at this venue but interestingly more people were at the second show than the first and on the other occasions it's been the reverse.
The set lists, reviews and photos will be added to KasimInfo.com soon.

Quid Pro Quo
01.30 - It was four years ago today that Kasim Sulton's album Quid Pro Quo was released! Click here for more info about the album.
Kasim is now writing songs for his next album but said on stage on Saturday that he won't say when he'll release it yet so that he doesn't disappoint people.

Kasim's gig at The Van Dyck
01.45 - Tonite Kasim plays the ninth out of 12 gigs on The Kasim Sulton 2006 Tour, although using Kasim's own definition of gigs in a competition he ran a few years ago, tonight he plays the 9th and 10th gigs out a 13 gig tour! The gig (or gigs!) tonight are at the Van Dyck in Schenectady, NY.
This is a venue where Kasim has played a couple of times before - 8th March 2002 and 2nd November 2002. On both nights (like tonight) Kasim has played two gigs. As with most musicians there are certain songs that they have to play in their sets (plus some people only attend one of the sets) so there is bound to be some songs which Kasim will play in both sets. The difference tonite is that there is a discount for people attending both sets as tickets are $20 for one show and only $30 for both. Tickets are available at the door.
The Van Dyck has quite a historical pedigree. It is located in Schenectady's Stockade, which was the first historic district in New York State. The Van Dyck is actually two buildings. The one on the left, 235 Union Street was built in 1890. The smaller structure on the right, 237 Union Street was built in 1820. The Van Dyck first opened its doors in 1947 and was originally a piano bar. The club was refurbished in 1997 and included combining four second-floor rooms into one which made a venue capable of seating 125 people. The room contains a Yamaha concert grand piano which had been owned by the Metropolitan Opera House. Downstairs there is a restaurant with a very varied menu too.
Kasim will be joined on stage tonight by both Doug Kennedy and Dennis DelGaudio and the shows start at 7.00pm and 9.30pm. The address of The Van Dyck is 237 Union Street, Schenectady, NY, 12305 and the telephone number is 518 381 1111. This link has more info about the gig.

Kasim Sulton 2006 Tour Mileage
01.30 - Tonite Kasim plays the ninth gig of The Kasim Sulton 2006 Tour. The gig tonight is at the Van Dyck in Schenectady, NY.
The trip today will take Kasim about 3 hours by road (it's 179 miles) and will be almost in a due north direction.
Staten Island to Schenectady, NY - 179 miles each way.
Total Tour Mileage - 3,313 miles.
