Another Opening (?) Act for Kasim
15.30 - Kasim Sulton is now listed on the front page of The Saint website (the graphic is below). The website also says that Crash & Burn will be playing that evening but it doesn't specify whether they are Kasim's opening act or a totally different show that evening.
The website also says that the doors open at 8.00pm (with no show-time listed) but TicketMaster.com says that the show itself starts at 7.30pm.

Opening Act for Kasim
07.30 - Lisa McClowry has been named as the opening act for Kasim Sulton at his solo gig on 24th September in Valparaiso.
Lisa is a very busy singer / songwriter in the Chicago area - for example she's booked to play 22 gigs in July alone!
Kasim is mentioned on Lisa's website as follows:

KasimSulton.com has had a facelift!
05.30 - KasimSulton.com has had a facelift! I think this is the fifth version of the site since its inception in 2001 and it now has a nice stylish modern look to it with a purple background. There's also a couple of new photos in the photo gallery.
Many thanks to Diane for the heads-up regarding this.

Kasim and The New Cars in Calabasas magazine
05.15 - There's an article about The New Cars in Calabasas Magazine. The interview is mainly with Elliot Easton but there are two great photos of Kasim Sulton.
Many thanks to Darnelle for these scans.

Kasim's Soundcheck Package
19.45 - From all the e-mails I've received today (about 10!!), I know that a lot of fans are concerned that Kasim may not be prepared to meet fans at the gigs where he's running his Soundcheck Package.
Kasim has stated that he still intends to chat to everybody at his solo gigs after his set as he has always done and these packages will not change that.
Kasim is well known for going out of his way to stay and chat to everybody who wants to talk to him, to pose for photos and to guess your children's ages (one of his less well-known talents)!

Review of Kasim at The New Cars Jones Beach concert
19.30 - TRConnection.com has a nice review of Kasim at The New Cars concert on 9th June by Dave Kohrumel.
|
The New Cars gig in Atlanta, GA
15.30 - I'm not sure if it's true or not but according to this thread on TheNewCars.com The New Cars have to play the gig in Atlanta, GA as they received the money "up front" and this venue have a lot of ticketholders who purchase tickets for the whole season of concerts at the venue.
If this is true then it would explain why so far The New Cars are reported to be playing this one gig in September and rumored to be playing the remainder of their gigs in November and December.
|
Kasim Sulton's solo gig at The Saint
02.00 - According to The Saint's website JerseyShows.com will also be hosting a gig there on Saturday 29th July on their Summer will set us Free Tour.
On their bill will be four bands called Where's Patty (described as Rock / Powerpop / Christian Rap"), Screaming Females, CenterView and The Rydalls.
It appears that this gig will start at 1.00pm with Kasim due on stage in the evening.

Kasim Sulton tickets listed on TicketMaster.com
18.00 - Tickets for Kasim Sulton's gig at The Saint in Asbury Park, NJ on 29th July is now listed on TicketMaster.com here.
TicketMaster actually has two listings for Kasim for some reason and this listing here (with details about his career) says that no tickets are currently available!
(It's so great seeing Kasim's name listed on TicketMaster in his own right again!)

KSulton Bass
12.15 - This week there's been some posts on a couple of Todd Rundgren mailing lists by people who have received their own KSultonBass.
Amongst the comments posted include the phrases:
"I've been tooling around with it for an hour or so, just playing it unplugged. It's got a nice feel to the neck and seems to play as well as the Gibson's, Fender's and Rickenbacker's that I've owned in the past."
"The bass is really nice to hold. The feel is excellent."
"It is slightly smaller then my Fender Precision basses, and lighter, but the sound is awesome."
"For a relatively inexpensive instrument, I think this seems to be very good value."
"It is an excellent bass for the price."
"The KSulton Bass has the best tone I've heard for ages!"
"It's a signature bass which Kasim should be proud to have his name on."
Don't forget there's a link to win a KSulton Bass above!

(For all those new fans of his who don't know who he means by Phyllis, he means Doug Kennedy.)
Kasim also says that he wants Doug to play at all of his solo gigs.
Fans have posted on various mailing lists and messageboards that other musicians rumored to appear on stage with Kasim at these gigs are Randy Flowers and Mark Alexander from Meat Loaf's band and Kasim's brother Alex.

Doug Kennedy
09.45 - Doug Kennedy has said that unfortunately he may not be playing all of the gigs on the Kasim Sulton 2006 Solo Tour. He aims to play as many as he can but so far is only confirmed for the New York, Philadelphia, Asbury Park, Nyack and Staten Island gigs.
To date Doug has played 13 solo gigs in total with Kasim.
|
Kasim Sulton Press Releases
09.30 - NewsWire Today have two press releases about Kasim Sulton's forthcoming solo tour. Unfortunately there are several errors or inaccuracies in them but they still make an interesting read and hopefully some print press will pick them up.
Click here to read about The Bitter End gig on 15th July and here to read about The Saint gig on 29th July.

Kasim Sulton at The Tin Angel, Philadelphia
07.45 - Continuing the "which of Kasim's solo gigs shall I see this summer?" round-up of the venues, exactly one week after Kasim Sulton's first gig of his 2006 Solo Tour in New York City, he'll be playing at The Tin Angel in Philadelphia, PA.
Philadelphia, PA is about 97 miles south of New York City (about one hour and 45 minutes by road) and Kasim's gigs is on Saturday 22nd July at 7.30pm. Tickets cost $16 and more info can be found here. This will be Kasim's fourth solo gig at this venue - the last time he played here was in February this year.
The Tin Angel is right in the center of Philadelphia and is very easy to find. There's lots of parking nearby - the closest is just opposite the venue. The room itself is long and narrow so they recommend that you eat first at the restaurant below called The Serrano as only diners can reserve tables. However there are stools all along the right hand side where anyone can sit but it's best to buy your ticket in advance and get there early for the best view.
Doug Kennedy used to live near Philadelphia until recently and his band The Isle Of Q gigged out of the city so there's bound to be loads of his friends and family in attendence (they'll be the noisy ones there!) so that always makes a great atmosphere too.
One "interesting" feature of this venue is that the restrooms are just behind the stage and are also near the dressing rooms, much to the delight of some fans! The lighting at this venue tends to be quite dark (so hopefully Kasim will wear a light colored shirt that evening!) but there's an excellant sound system here and they usually have very good sound guys too.
One thing lots of fans like in particular about this venue is that the next show here doesn't start until 10.30pm and The Tin Angel is great at not making people leave immediately so that leaves lots of time for fans to talk to Kasim afterwards and to take photos!
Kasim Sulton and Doug Kennedy at their gig here on 1st March 2002

Thursday 29th June 2006 - 16 days until Kasim Sulton's 2006 Solo Tour starts!!
|
Kasim's gig in Nyack, NY
18.00 - More details about Kasim Sulton's solo gig in Nyack, NY on 12th August have been finalized.
The doors will open at 6.00pm with the opening act taking the stage at 7.00pm and Kasim expected on at around 8.00pm. Fans are advised to arrive early in order to get the best tables at this venue.
Tickets for the gig are $20 and currently are only available in advance on (845) 290-8300. The online booking facility is expected to be operational early next week.
The airings of Meat Loaf and The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at this venue have been moved to 8/11 and 8/13 so fans in this area will be able to have three days of Kasim Sulton!
|
Another Kasim Sulton Solo Gig
15.45 - Another gig has been added to the Kasim Sulton 2006 Solo Tour schedule. It's on Tuesday 29th August and will be at The Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland, Ohio!
This will be Kasim's third solo gig at this venue and he'll be playing in The Tavern room of the venue again. At his last appearance (in February 2002) they had to get in additional seating due to the crowd that turned up that evening! Considering the massive success of The New Cars concert just outside Cleveland earlier this month, it's strongly advised that fans buy tickets in advance for this gig so that they are not disappointed because the hall only holds 150 people.
The concert starts at 8.00pm with tickets costing $16 in advance or $18 if there are any left on the night. Doug Kennedy will again be playing on stage with Kasim.
Kasim's gig isn't yet listed on the venue website (it was only confirmed a few minutes ago!) but click here for the TicketWeb link for when it goes on sale.

New Kasim Sulton Solo Gig
11.45 - Kasim Sulton will be playing a gig on his 2006 Solo Tour at the Opus Theater in West Nyack, NY on Saturday 12th August. Time and ticketing to be announced soon. (Most gigs at this venue appear to start at 7.00pm.)
This is a very stylish looking theater venue which includes a restaurant and bar within the complex too. Click here for their extensive menu. This venue says that their tickets are priced competitively to a movie and they boast of their Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound so it's going to be an incredible experience to hear Kasim's music in a venue like that!
If you enjoy hearing Kasim at the Opus Theater then the following Saturday evening (19th) they are showing the movie of Meat Loaf Live With The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra which also includes Kasim!
West Nyack is about 52 miles due north of Staten Island. The Opus Theater is located in the Palisades Mall which apparently is the second largest indoor Mall (in terms of stores) in the United States.
What better way of spending a Saturday than shopping, eating and then a Kasim Sulton gig in the evening?!!!
