Greatest Albums Of All Time Chart
17.15 - One of the over one hundred albums on which Kasim has played features in "The greatest albums of all time" chart which was compiled today by the book of British Hit Singles and Albums and NME.com according to the London newspaper Metro.
The album is Bat Out Of Hell by Meat Loaf (on which Kasim plays bass and sings background vocals) and it was placed 25 in the UK based chart.
The album does not feature in the "Best selling albums in the UK" chart.

The New Cars at MoonDance Jam
10.30 - The New Cars now have their own page on the Moon Dance Jam website in Walker, MN for their 14th July gig (which is currently their last concert on this tour of the US). Click here to view it but as it will disappear at some point, the Kasim Sulton part says:
"The addition of Todd Rundgren, a celebrated performer, songwriter, producer and technology groundbreaker (with hits like I Saw the Light, Hello It’s Me, Can We Still Be Friends and Bang the Drum to his credit) is particularly exciting, as is the involvement of his longtime Utopia bandmate, acclaimed bassist and singer/songwriter Kasim Sulton, who has played with the likes of Meat Loaf, Celine Dion, Hall & Oates, Ronnie Spector and the Indigo Girls in his distinguished career."
Ticket for this event went on sale several weeks ago and, unlike when Kasim last played here in 2002, single day passes are not available but instead fans have to buy a ticket for all 4 days which costs $130 (which is still cheaper than tickets for the Phoenix, Arizona concert!). The website is saying that they expect the event to sell-out before the concert.

Kasim gets lei'd at Hinckley, MN concert
10.00 - Apparently Kasim Sulton was lei'd for the first time on this tour at the Hinckley, MN concert last night! A post to a Todd Rundgren mailing list said (in part):
"I made my way up the center aisle, holding my kukui nut lei (black w/ white plumerias painted on each nut). Peeps let me thru right to the front, and, right when Todd turned around, I threw it onto the stage. I don't know if he saw it, but The New Cars went into the next song.
Yay, Kasim saw it and made his way over to the lei, scooped it up and put it on! It looked good against his red and black.
Yay, I lei'd Kasim this time!!!"

Concerts, concerts, concerts!
15.45 - Meat Loaf
Meat Loaf's official website MeatLoaf.net has confirmed that the 28th July concert in Toms River, NJ is genuine and seats near the front of the venue were available when tickets went on sale just past 10.00am this morning at $75 (plus charges). Meat Loaf has confirmed that they will not be playing any new songs at the concert (so consequently require little, if any, rehearsal time). Many thanks to Caryl Burton for that info.
The New Cars - Walker, MN
Pollstar.com are now listing The New Cars playing at MoonDanceJam in Walker, MN on Friday 14th July. Previously The New Cars official website TheNewCars.com had announced that they would be playing on Saturday 15th July. However there is no space on the schedule for the Saturday and the only available vacancy on the Friday is as the headliner act at 11.00pm.
The New Cars - Lancaster, PA
Tickets for the concert on Sunday 2nd July at the Clipper Magazine Stadium go on sale tomorrow at 10.00am. Click here for the direct link to purchase tickets. The New Cars in Hinckley, MN
04.00 - Tonight Kasim Sulton, Prairie Prince, Greg Hawkes, Elliot Easton and Todd Rundgren play the 12th concert of The New Cars Road Rage Tour. This is their only confirmed concert in Minnesota (the 7th state of the tour).
The concert tonight is at The Grand Casino in Hinckley, MN (about 90 miles north of Minneapolis / St. Paul) which is described as "a Native American Casino that is open daily 24 hours. The 54,800 square foot casino features 2,170 slots and forty-seven table games. The property has five restaurants and four hotels with 855 rooms". Click here for the official website of the venue.
The New Cars will be playing in The Grand Amphitheater at the venue. The website states that it is "a gun-free facility" and "video cameras and recording devices are not allowed. Still cameras are generally permitted, however, it varies on a show-by-show basis".
It appears that this will be another outdoor concert as it's advertised as "Come rain, come shine" and the forecast is that it will be 76 degrees and partly cloudy for the soundcheck and 65 degrees with scattered showers for the concert itself. There is a 30% chance of precipitation during the concert but the wind which has affected them badly at other venues is only expected to be 2mph tonite.
According to the only note that I've been able to find on the Internet, the capacity at this venue is supposed to only be 1,088 (which would make it the smallest venue that they've played on the tour so far). Yesterday tickets could be bought in the fifth row (probably due to either high-rollers not taking up their offered seats or the VIP packages not being sold). Tickets for this concert vary between $32 and $48 (plus charges) which also makes it one if the cheapest concerts on the tour so far.
The concert tonight starts with Blondie playing their opening set at 8.00pm so Kasim is expected to take the stage at 10.00pm.

The New Cars on Cities97.com
21.15 - Due to their flight into the Minneapolis area being delayed, The New Cars interview and performance on Cities97.com tonight was delayed by two hours. They played Best Friend's Girl, Drive (with Kasim singing lead!) and Not Tonight in a show which lasted about 30 minutes.
Click the Cars Radio section of the website to hear the interview and performance.
Many thanks to Vicki Pearson of RepublicOfLoafdom.com for the recording.

The New Cars Road Rage Tour Mileage
15.30 - It's another long trip for The New Cars today as it's a long 1,079 miles from last night's concert to the radio show today. That's a long 15 hours by road but only 1 hour and 55 minutes by air.
Englewood, CO to Hinckley, MN - 1,079 miles.
Total Tour Mileage - 6,391 miles.
(As the circumference of the Earth at the Equator is 24,901 miles it mean that the tour has now travelled over a quarter of the way around the planet!)

The New Cars live on the Radio and Internet today
12.30 - The New Cars are listed as appearing live on the radio (and steaming on the Internet) today at 5.00pm Central Time from Studio C on Cities97.com in the Minnesota area. (It's not known whether Kasim will be involved in this appearance or not.)
Many thanks to gnordenstam for posting about this.

The New Cars on The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson
09.30 - Although it's not listed on the official website yet according to TVBarn.com, The New Cars are listed as appearing on The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson on Tuesday 6th June.
On Tuesday 21st March The New Cars recorded both Not Tonight and Just What I Needed for the show. On the night of 27th / 28th March Not Tonight was aired but they still have Just What I Needed to be screened at some point (although Cynic Sulton said "Now, they "promised" us they would air both songs on separate days but personally I think there was a certain amount of lip service involved. One thing about Los Angeles, there will always be someone telling you what you WANT to hear.").
Previously The New Cars were listed as appearing on the airing of this show on Friday 5th May and this appearance was pulled quite late.
Many thanks to Jennifer Salyer for the heads-up regarding this.

Review of Greenwood Village, CO concert online
05.45 - RockyMountainNews.com has a review of the concert which Kasim Sulton and the rest of The New Cars played last night in the Denver area:
"Rundgren expertly drives band
By Steve Knopper, Special to the News
May 31, 2006
When the '80s pop band INXS needed a lead singer for a reunion tour, the band started a reality show, found a hunky guy who could sort of sing and took this hodgepodge on the road. When another '80s pop band, The Cars, needed a lead singer for a reunion tour, they took the opposite approach - they called in Todd Rundgren. He turns out to be a ringer.
Rundgren, the pop mastermind who wrote the '70s hits Hello It's Me and Bang On the Drum All Day and produced influential bands like the New York Dolls and XTC, wore a red velvet jacket and a floppy blonde-on- top haircut and commanded center stage like some kind of skinny ostrich.
He had the rubbery voiced detachment to recall original Cars singer Ric Ocasek (who refused to participate in this reunion) and the confidence to tinker with the script. Rather than mimicking Ocasek's deadpan delivery in You Might Think, Rundgren ad-libbed a shriek during the classic "you - kept it going" bit toward the end.
With Rundgren as the ringmaster, these New Cars drew on their new-wave weapons - a fiercely tight rhythm section, with bassist Kasim Sulton (of Rundgren's old band, Utopia) and drummer Prairie Prince (of The Tubes) and bleeping, blooping, boinging, unforgettable hooks from original keyboardist Greg Hawkes.
The Cars are one of the few big-synth '80s bands whose hits sound barely dated. And while Tuesday night's show was essentially a greatest-hits exercise, Shake It Up, Hello Again, My Best Friend's Girl and especially the explosive You're All I've Got Tonight came across less like nostalgia than reinvention.
The New Cars - with Sulton replacing the late Ben Orr and Prince replacing original drummer David Robinson, who also declined - indulged Rundgren with Bang On the Drum All Day and I Saw the Light. (The band's fifth member is original guitarist Elliot Easton, who grinned pretty much the whole time.)
Opening the rainy show - which drew a paltry 6,200 fans, making the lawn seem big enough for a baseball game before the sun went down - were recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Blondie.
Singer Debbie Harry, wearing a fluorescent light-green hoodie and striped sweatpants, gained power as the hourlong show went on, and the closing one-two-three punch of classics Rapture, One Way Or Another and Heart Of Glass almost redeemed the set.
"I'm gonna win ya!" Harry declared, of course, in One Way Or Another - and she pretty much did."

03.30 - Even though the concert which Kasim Sulton and The New Cars played in Denver, CO only finished a couple of hours ago, there's already a photo of Kasim on TheNewCars.com here. (It looks like Kasim won the "best dressed musician on stage" award again!)

Kasim and The New Cars in Denver, CO
04.00 - Tonite Kasim Sulton, Elliot Easton, Todd Rundgren, Greg Hawkes and Priarie Prince will play the 11th concert of The New Cars Road Rage Tour!
The concert tonight will be held at the Coors Amphitheatre in Greenwood Village, Colorado which is 15 minutes south of downtown Denver. The official website for the venue (a House Of Blues facility) says that there are "spectacular Rocky Mountain sunsets as a background", however the photo below seems to indicate that fans will be looking at a brick wall! This venue has reserved seating for 6,823 and additional seating for 10,000 on a landscaped lawn. Seats are currently available in the 4th row for this concert (on Kasim's side of the stage) at $76 (plus charges) and lawn tickets are only $20.50. The concert starts at 7.00pm and doors open at 5.30pm. Blondie will again be the opening act.
This venue states that the following items are not allowed in:
* Cameras
* Large bags, large backpacks, coolers
* Alcohol
* Bottles
* Cans
* Outside food or beverages
* Weapons of any kind (including, but not limited to firearms and knives)
* Laser pointers of any kind
* Any missile-like objects
* Signs attached to a stick or pole
It further states that "all guests entering the venue are subject to search by metal detecting hand wands or hoods and/or pat downs. Additionally, all small bags, briefcases, and purses are subject to search at venue entrances". (In the case of all the venues so far on the tour there have been "no cameras" signs at all the entrances but all except Viejas have allowed fans to take photos.)
This will be the 4th outdoor concert of the tour and so far they have generally been unlucky with the weather (the concert in Konocti Harbor was cut short by 2 songs due to the cold and wind). It appears that that bad luck will be continuing as the forecast for the soundcheck is 63 degrees with the chance of thunderstorms and for the time that Kasim is expected on stage it is expected to be a maxiumum of 56 degrees (but feeing like 54 as there'll be a 7mph wind), the chances of isolated thunderstorms and a 30% chance of precipitation so it sounds as though Kasim will be keeping his jacket on tonight!

The New Cars Road Rage Tour Mileage
11.15 - The New Cars last concert was last night in Kelseyville, California. They now have two days off until their next concert on Tuesday in Englewood, Colorado. This trip will take Kasim and the rest of the band almost due East. By road the trip will take about 18.75 hours so hopefully Kasim will be flying! (But spare a thought for the poor crew who will have to travel by road.)
Konocti Harbor, Kelseyville, CA to Englewood, CO - 1,302 miles.
Total Tour Mileage - 5,312 miles.

Photos of Kasim in Konocti Harbor
03.00 - Although the concert finished less than two hours ago, there are already a couple of photos of Kasim Sulton at the Konocti Harbor Amphitheatre on TheNewCars.com:
Although it looks as though Kasim is wearing yellow pants, he was wearing blue jeans on stage tonight!
I said Kasim was wearing blue jeans!
