Kasim and The New Cars in Kelseyville, CA
13.00 - Today Kasim Sulton and the rest of The New Cars play their fifth and final concert in California on The New Cars Road Rage Tour. This will be the 10th concert of the tour and Blondie will again be the opening act. Today the concert is virtually a matinee performance as it starts at 5.30pm! Doors open at 4.30pm and Kasim is expected on stage at 7.30pm.
This venue seats 5,000 fans (all within 200 feet from the stage) and the audience looks out over Clear Lake. Within 20 minutes of this concert going on sale a single seat was only available in the 7th row but this morning 2 seats together could be purchased in the 3rd row of the venue! Tickets for this concert vary from $49 to $103 (which includes a sunset barbeque).
This is an outdoor concert (the third of the tour) and it's expected to be 65 degrees and sunny for the soundcheck and 59 degrees for the concert itself. Sunset is at 8.27pm tonight (i.e. when Kasim will be on stage). There is 0% chance of precipitation.

The New Cars Road Rage Tour Mileage
12.45 - The trip from Reno, Nevada to Kelseyville, California is in a westerly direction and slightly south, however the I80 takes a big southerly dip to Sacremento so by road it will take about 4 hours (the first part of the journey is really pretty as it takes you through the snow-capped mountains!) and the first part will be the route they took to get out to Reno yesterday. This journey takes the Tour Mileage (from venue to venue) over 4,000 miles!
Reno Events Center, Reno, NV to Konocti Harbor, Kelseyville, CA - 241 miles.
Total Tour Mileage - 4,010 miles.

Kasim at the Sweet Spot Party
11.00 - For the first time it seems that Kasim Sulton made an appearance at the Sweet Spot Party last night here!
Paid, Inc (who are arranging all the VIP packages) hold this party before each concert for everybody who purchased VIP packages and for anyone who wishes to pay the additional $99.95 to join in. Typically these last from 4.00pm until 7.00pm before the concert and there is food and drink available plus they hold competitions. It's strictly fans only with no expectations that any of the band will attend but it appears that Kasim dropped by last night.
(The latest "surprise" for those who paid $400 to meet The New Cars for 15 minutes including a posed photo (where only Kasim appears to make any effort to make the photos personal) is that if they want a printed copy of the photo they have to pay extra money for it! They're not allowed to take their own camera into the M&G.)

A great shot of Kasim!

Kasim and The New Cars in Reno, Nevada
04.00 - After playing in the chilly mountains in California last night, tonight's concert is back indoors in the Reno Events Center in Reno, Nevada. This will be the 9th concert of The New Cars Road Rage Tour and their second in Nevada (by coincidence they played Las Vegas, Nevada last Friday night). Blondie will again be the opening act and the concert starts at 8.00pm.
The blurb on the Reno Events Center website says "Every square foot of Reno's newest and most versatile venue is built for entertainment, from world tour kickoffs to electrifying boxing matches, and everything in between. It's flexible 7,000 seat capacity and its location in the liveliest part of the city makes it the place to plan in Reno." This will be Kasim Sulton's first appearance at this venue.
Regular priced seating at this venue varies from $45 to $85 (plus charges) and the Meet and Greet package (including meeting Kasim) costs $395. Last night seats were available on the floor in the middle section in the 7th row (which is where my seat is and I bought my ticket as soon as they went on sale in March!).

Total Tour Mileage - 3,769 miles.

Kasim's Online Journal
14.15 - Kasim has updated his online journal about American Idol. He's included photos of himself here and here. Kasim also says that he's having "having a really good time" playing on The New Cars Tour.
Many thanks to Jennifer Salyer for noticing that it has been updated.

Kasim and The New Cars in Saratoga, CA
02.45 - Tonight Kasim Sulton plays as part of The New Cars on their Road Rage Tour at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, California. This will be the 8th concert on the tour and the second outdoor venue. The weather forecast is sunny and 70 degrees for the soundcheck and clear and 55 degrees for their set. There is 0% chance of precipitation and senset is at 8.18pm. Last night there was a minor earthquake with the epicenter about 30 miles from the venue!
The official website for this venue MountainWinery.com does not list the capacity for the concerts but other websites say that it is about 2,500 seated plus some General Admission near the back. This was one of the most difficult venues to get good seats for as the venue holds the front rows for its regular patrons. Even when the tickets first went on sale the $445 VIP seat packages (with the Meet and Greet with all The New Cars was at least 10 rows back. Yesterday it was possible to purchase seats in the 19th row in the middle for $127 each (unreserved tickets for this concert start at $57).
An alternative that this venue offers is to purchase a box! They have two boxes at the venue which include:
• 12 V.I.P. box seats
• Dinner for 12 people on the Chateau Deck (3-course Pri Fixe menu)
• Beverage service in the box, including 6 bottles of their California Series Wine
• 6 parking passes
The price for each box is $3,000 and one of the boxes has already been sold!
The concert tonight starts at 7.00pm with the doors opening at 5.00pm. Blondie will again be the opening act so Kasim is expected to hit the stage at around 9.00pm PST.
Mountain Winery have been holding concerts each summer since 1958. Kasim last played here on 5th July 2002 (when he also played a solo opening set!). Assuming The New Cars play the same 19 song set list as they have at all the concerts except Pala, tonight will feature the 132nd to 150th songs of the tour!

The New Cars Road Rage Tour Mileage
23.45 - The journey from the Viejas Casino in Alpine, California (just east of San Diego to Saratoga, California (where the concert is being played tomorrow) is estimated to take just over 8 hours and if they travel the route I took then a lot of it is a pretty journey with the Pacific Ocean on one side and mountains on the other!
Viejas Outlet Center, Alpine, CA to Mountain Winery, Saratoga, CA - 535 miles.
Total Tour Mileage - 3,500 miles.

Meat Loaf and American Idol
13.15 - Meat Loaf has posted in the Members Only section of his official website MeatLoaf.net that he called Kasim in for rehearsals for American Idol on Monday. The actual quote (written in Meat Loafese!) is "Not enough time on Mon. to run the song and get the Monitors together, called in TC( my monitor person) from the cars tour to come and help, Kasim as well. Monday was nuts they put us on stage, the band didn't know the song, Kat didn't know the song and the sound sucked."
Meat Loaf will be singing the Celine Dion song It's All Coming Back To Me Now with contestant Katherine McPhee on the finale which airs today at 6.00pm EST (3.00pm PST). Click here to see it stream on the Internet.

Professional Reviews
04.00 - The reviewer of the Grand Prairie concert in ClassicRockRevisited.com asks why Kasim Sulton doesn't sing any more of Ben Orr's songs!
There's a review of the Universal City concert on Variety.com. (It only mentions Kasim in passing.)
The OCRegister.com has posted a negative review of the Universal City concert but the blurb about the photo on the page with Todd Rundgren in the foreground is about Kasim!
