Hello It's Me With 6 gigs in 8 days (plus work and attending a festival too this week) I’ll be keeping these reviews much briefer than I normally do. Unfortunately this was easily my least favourite of the four Todd Rundgren gigs so far in the UK on this tour. In fact it was probably one of my least favourite of his gigs ever. The problem was that Todd's voice was very bad. He sounded hoarse and at times didn't hit the right notes. In fact he sounded so bad at the start of Hawking that he stopped the song after a few bars and started it again. His bad voice did however have one plus side as his patter was really funny tonight and went on for much longer. For that reason the gig lasted an extra ten minutes. Todd also only did that silly count into a song once before they did it for real in the encore. Todd mentioned that on Saturday at Ronnie Scott's they will play two different sets (both of 1 hour 15 minutes). One will be bosa nova and the other will be blues so he asked us all which way round they should do it and the audience seemed to think bosa nova would be best first. It was not only Todd's voice that seemed tired as all the band didn't seem to have as much energy as on the previous two nights. The lighting was better on Todd tonight but I didn't think it was quite as good on Kasim, although that may have been where I was standing. When Todd introduced Kasim, he made some comment that I couldn't make out about him having played with 'a big fat guy' (he obviously meant Meat Loaf). As Kasim walked on stage he gave Todd a big hug and then Todd made the comment that he paid Kasim much less than the 'big fat guy' did. Only Todd did the scissor kicks in Couldn't I Just Tell You (most likely due to space again). Roll on the next London gig tomorrow!

The venue (taken from the KasimInfo.com Blog that day):
The gig tonight is at the Jazz Cafe which is the venue where they played last night and on Monday.
The address of the venue is Jazz Cafe, 5 Parkway, Camden Town, London, NW1 7PG. This is in the north west part of London. (On Saturday they played the first gig of the tour in Manchester which is about five hours drive north west from London.)
Tickets for this gig were £31.25 (about $40) for General Admission (standing) tickets and £46 (about $60) for seated tickets on the higher floor. Tickets for this gig sold out very fast.
The Jazz Cafe was opened in December 1990 after being converted from a bank!. It originally ran along the lines of Ronnie Scott's with seven nights a week live Jazz music. After the venue was bought by the Mean Fiddler company it re-positioned itself as "a Jazz, Soul, Funk, World, Dance and Hip Hop venue."
The gig is listed as starting at 7pm (2pm NYC time) but HMV (who own the venue) have a policy of only putting the door opening time on their tickets so that people arrive early and drink! The show will actually start (with no opening act) at about 8.30pm.
