Hello It's Me
Review by SueW:
This venue was about six times smaller than the size of the venue in Manchester and nowhere near as hot.
I had a restaurant ticket which was more expensive and you had to buy dinner but some of the ticket price was put towards your meal. They sold New Orleans type of food (presumably to go with the jazz theme) which was very nice. The restaurant area was upstairs and it was all standing downstairs. Thankfully we had a table at the front of the balcony as those at the back had to stand to see.
The most bizarre part was that the band and then Todd had to get to the stage by walking right through the restaurant and down some stairs to the edge of the stage. During the part between the main set and the encore they just stood near the side of the stage but afterwards they had to come back through the restaurant again.
The set list was the same as on Saturday, as was Todd’s patter except that they threatened to sing a Meat Loaf song!
The sound (at least where I was sitting) was much better tonight than in Manchester as I could hear all the vocals clearly.
Jesse had a bad night as he broke a guitar string twice and had some problems with one guitar which meant that the tech had to spend a while on stage attending to it. He also only just made it in time to play one guitar solo due to the problems he was having so that even Todd remarked on that.
The stage was very small and Prairie and John were almost facing each other on either side of the stage just to fit them all on! In fact the stage was so small that in Couldn’t I Just Tell You, Kasim started the scissor kicks with only one leg and when both he and Todd did it properly there wasn’t enough room for Jesse to join in too.
As I said it was cooler in the venue tonight so Todd kept his jacket on through all the set.
Kasim was wearing a fitted black, almost shiny, top and black trousers. It was good to see him looking happy on stage and smiling a lot.
The website said that Todd would start at 8.30pm (thankfully there was no opening act) and he came on just after that and played until 10.35pm so the show was just under two hours long.
By the time Todd was in the dressing room the band were only just finishing A Dream Goes On Forever.
The lighting (especially on Kasim) was much better at this venue although I didn’t take many photos as, where I was sitting, there was a bar from the balcony across Kasim in my sight.
Roll on the next London gig tomorrow!

The venue (taken from the KasimInfo.com Blog that day):
The gig tonight is at the Jazz Cafe which is the venue where they will also be playing on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
The address of the venue is Jazz Cafe, 5 Parkway, Camden Town, London, NW1 7PG. This is in the north west part of London. (On Saturday they played the first gig of the tour in Manchester which is about five hours drive north west from London.)
Tickets for this gig were £31.25 (about $40) for General Admission (standing) tickets and £46 (about $60) for seated tickets on the higher floor. Tickets for this gig sold out very fast.
This will be Kasim Sulton's first appearance at this venue.
The Jazz Cafe was opened in December 1990 after being converted from a bank!. It originally ran along the lines of Ronnie Scott's with seven nights a week live Jazz music. After the venue was bought by the Mean Fiddler company it re-positioned itself as "a Jazz, Soul, Funk, World, Dance and Hip Hop venue."
The gig is listed as starting at 7pm (2pm NYC time) but HMV (who own the venue) have a policy of only putting the door opening time on their tickets so that people arrive early and drink! The show will actually start (with no opening act) at about 8.30pm.
