The Palace of Fine Arts Theatre was originaly constructed as part of the Panama Pacific Exposition of 1915 which was an event dedicated to progress, the celebration of the completion of the Panama Canal and the rebirth of San Francisco following the 1906 earthquake. Construction of the building began on 8th December 1913 but the building was only built of material that was designed to last the year of the exposition. However in October 1915 there was a Fine Arts Preservation Day when 33,000 signatures were collected and $350,000 was raised towards the duplication of the Palace in lasting materials. The theatre seats 1,000 people.
