Comments by SueW

  • I noticed the signing-in book on the desk at the Artists Entrance of the venue and all the band (and crew) had had to sign in individually (Kasim signed his surname too) - I wonder how much that page would fetch on E-Bay?!
  • The pods were all as near the front of the stage as they could (within keeping them in a semi circle) so the majority of this orchestra sized stage wasn't used.
  • As I was chatting to a friend outside before the gig, I had to do a quick trot down the aisle to get to my set once the music to Truth started - my bum hit the set EXACTLY at the time that Todd walked on stage!
  • No Temporary Insanity or Love Science tonight so it was a shorter set again. I've thoroughly enjoyed all 6 European gigs but I wish that they'd played WWE more than just in Holland.
  • One of the most under-stated parts of the gigs has to be Kasim's bass playing during both Jesse's and especially John's solo parts in BTS - Kasim's hands just fly across his bass. The tune wouldn't sound half as good without the bass and yet I doubt that more than a handful of people in the audience will have noticed it!
  • Before the show I walked across the back of the stage (slowing down when I got to Kasim's pod!) and one thing that hadn't occurred before to me was that due to Todd's arch, there are parts of the audience that Kasim can't see just like we can't see him in places.
  • When Todd introduced the Jetsons Band, Kasim did a great impersonation of Sister Judy!
  • Todd remarked on that fact that tonight all the band were wearing subtle colours (to be fair, Jesse has only worn one light coloured suit on this leg of the tour anyway!) but that Kasim was wearing bright red - he called him a "slut"!
  • This was my 59th Todd Rundgren gig (I think) - his music suits far better nightclub venues rather than orchestra halls.
  • Afterwards one of the band described this gig as "un-eventful". By that I got the impression that he meant mediocre - I know I always want the last gig of a tour to be something spectacular and this wasn't. It was a good gig but not a great one IMHO.
  • At one point in the second part of the set (of course in a quiet part!) the sound of whistling started from somewhere! Kasim thought that it was his bass so he went off-stage to get it sorted out but it started again later (briefly) so I'm not sure that it ever was that!
  • The crowd remained seated through all the gig (other than a few people dancing in their places during For The Want Of A Nail) until the encores when lots of people came and stood at the front of the stage. I've never seen Todd sing as little as he did during the encore as most of the time he was just walking along the length of the stage shaking hands with people! When he was singing, often his microphone wasn't at his mouth.
  • I think that John Ferenzik went to the Kasim Sulton School of Keyboard-playing the way he bashes those keys! His whole pod shakes at times!
  • For the first time (that I've noticed) on this leg of the tour, Todd did his one leg circulating jumping during JOV!
  • I took so many photos so I'll add another page of them to the Photo section on the site. Follow the blue links to photos of the rest of the band.
  • Todd wears the most amazing pair of boots! The platforms on them must be about 6 inches high! He's already quite tall as it is!
  • Most of the time when John Ferenzik was playing the keyboards all I could see was his bowler hat above the keyboards moving around!
  • When they did the part in BTS when Todd sings various versions of the words "Born To Synthesise" and then Jesse (and later the band) replicate his sounds, tonight Jesse messed one up totally so Todd that he would sack him if it wasn't for the fact that it was the last show of the tour!
  • From where I was sitting (in the front row!) the sound was fine but lots of other people elsewhere in the venue complained that the sound was bad.
  • Jesse really gets into all the songs...he's always jumping around in his pod!
  • Once again, Todd didn't talk at all during the first part of the set and didn't seem to speak as much as normal in the second.
  • Randy and not Kasim woke Todd up in BTS.
  • Jesse broke a string again tonight!
  • There are some amusing little bits to spot throughout the whole set such as Jesse moving his guitar like a pendulum in one song and Prairie crossing his drumsticks above his head in a cross shape.
  • The truck they are using on this tour is double the size of the one they used in US. Over there they have a coach and a little trailer towed behind but here there is a coach and a separate truck.
  • Mary-Lou Arnold has been the tour manager at all of the UK shows.
  • At one point tonight (near the end of the gig) Kasim went and stood in Priarie's pod and was chatting to him!
  • It's interesting comparing the Todd audiences to the Meat Loaf audiences that Kasim usually plays in front of in UK - there are far more men and far less tonnage in these audiences!
  • Thankfully Kasim didn't wear his hat or his glasses tonight - I much prefer it when he doesn't!
  • At every concert I am amazed at how Todd keeps singing all these concerts. His voice never cracks despite the fact that he screams in Liar.
  • When Todd gets to the "spending the night" line in Hello It's Me, he removes his glasses and winks at the audience exaggeratedly.
  • During Kasim's bass solo tonight, Prairie Prince just stood up in his pod and watched him again.
  • It's nice to see that Quid Pro Quo has been for sale at all these venues (except London) and appears to be selling very well!
  • Glasgow sang the loudest "Mother F*****" of the tour - I must admit that I didn't sing it once!
  • Roll on Japan in October ....

"The band where more than adequate, they looked like they where enjoying themselves and not just going through the motions."

"Todd can still make a guitar sing, and when Kasim played the riff from The 7 Rays there was a big cheer from the crowd."

"Prairie introduced my 6 yr old to Jesse and Kasim and they were fabulous with her. She lasted right through to Feel It before heavy eyes took over and she crashed out."

"No Love Science this time but Kasim did treat us to a bass solo which included Hammer In My Heart and The Ikon"

"As already posted the set was same as Glasgow - the band seemed to be enjoying themselves , especially Kasim who hardly stopped smiling - at point he also 'projected' water towards Prairie."

"Treated to Kasim's Utopiaesque bass solo. Amazing. Was he a toddler when he was in Utopia as he seemed really young?"

"The band had their turn as they enjoyed themselves to an almost jamming version of "Green Onion" Kasim still drinking from the fountain of eternal youth and looking younger than I last saw him at Knebworth in `79!"

"Would have preferred more interaction with Kasim and the guys, which was lost as they just stood in their telephone boxes. A bit of old fashioned jammin' would not have gone amiss."

"After the first couple of numbers something wasn't quite right with the sound tonight and it appeared to be the fact that Kasim's bass was quite heavy. However, since he's such a great bass player this, in the end, didn't really bother me."

"Best comment of the night - the sound guy stood next to me looking at Kasim and saying "Where's that guiter dude guy off to??" as Kasim wandered over to the drummer!!!!"

"Why not perform a couple of the many Utopia songs Kasim has sung instead of Green Onions if they wanted the costume changes?"

"Kasim's bass solo was superb and all the band seemed to be having fun."

"Kasim is truly charming and Todd a trooper to the end."
