No time to write a full review as 6 concerts in 9 days (plus work) means lack of time! Instead I'll just add a few comments.
- The Symphony Hall is amazing! Todd said that he was "agog" about it! The acoustics were very good and the seats were designed so that everybody could see well. The floor and the first balcony were almost full but the top two balconies weren't used.
- I had a horrendous journey there as there were delays and then my exit on the motorway was closed. Birmingham must have more roundabouts per mile than any city! I know as I went round them all and some of them I kept going around until I chose an exit (usually a wrong one!).
- Thankfully (as I expected and hoped) the concert started 15 minutes late. I gathered that orchestra concerts (which are usually what this venue hosts) start on time as the stewards were complaining that it was late starting! Afterwards I heard two complaining that the bar was still open...it was only 10.00pm!
- The show lasted about 2 hours 15 minutes and it was the same set list as Bristol other than no Love Science. I preferred the Bristol gig overall.
- Let's just say that Kasim was obviously rather miffed that his ear-pieces weren't working! Whether the treatment the backpack received would have improved it is rather doubtful IMHO.
- Todd was a bit more chatty tonight and kept looking for a 9 year old boy whose birthday it was somewhere in the audience. He suggested before Sweet that then might be a good time for a bathroom break and that we had been "duly warned"!
- Bristol sang the Mother F***** part louder than Birmingham!
- Most people sat through all the set until HIM and JOV. A notable exception were some people in the front row who never sat!
- Todd's introduction to IHMFISP was that their dayroom in Birmingham had high speed Internet access but that it wasn't working in their hotel in London!
- The highlight of the concert for me was Kasim's bass solo in BTS - it was brilliant! He must have played for about 4 minutes. Forget what he said at his clinic at Summerfest about you only needing to know a few chords as he played some incredible sounds...words just don't do it justice. People were clapping along to it and he received a massive round of applause! Afterwards Todd joked that Kasim wanted to hear how it would sound in a proper symphony hall!
- When Kasim "woke" Todd in BTS Randy came on stage (all dressed up in a pimp outfit) and wiped Todd's brow. He was obviously very egged on my Prairie before this happened. Later, before HIM, Todd said that he was sweating and needed his valet so Randy came on again to wipe him down!
- Kasim has a new (short) haircut.
- After Liars Todd said that they planned to sing that even before "that nasty report" came out today (a comment about the UK report about the Iraq war that was issued today). He said that the UK and the US were like two drunk guys in a bar - "let's go and beat up that Iraqi guy".
- Kasim wore his clear glasses through the whole set and had his pink suit, white tie and red shirt on in the second half. Todd was wearing all yellow.
- Kasim and Jesse again stayed in their pods during all of JOV.
- I didn't take many photos tonight.
Roll on London tomorrow....
